I dont know it has been asked but....how come these shinigami are flying just like the hollows? Ever since the arrancar came i wondered it....it started with Rankigu i think. (Cpt. Hitsugaya & Matsumoto's battle)
Can someone explain this? Because how come they can fly in the living world but not in soul society?

It's not explained.
But.. they shouldn't be flying.. more precisly, standing in the air. It's how should I put it, a result of the author getting over zelos with battles. Before, Ichii neded Yurichi's bat-arm thing.. there is no logical explanation why he would be able to fly in the real world, when he can't fly in the SS world. I speculation it is perhaps an development mistake, perhaps they misinterpreted a manga board were they were jumping and mumbling huge walls of dialog as them flying. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Tousen and co. have legit flying permits however.

The whole 'flying' thing is acheived by the Shingami standing on their own reiatsu collected under their feet. I guess they can't do it in Soul Society because everything there, even the air, is composed of spirit particals.
Still wondering about this... |

Seriously though, it's the most logical explination there is. Not sure if Hisago is guessing or that it's been explained officially somewhere, but I'd be 90% sure it's correct.

With Vizard training being aired this question came to mind:
Ichigo emerged from Urahara's hole-in-the-ground with a mask but still having a shinigami body. What would have happened to him if his body turned into the Hollow thing the anime viewers have recently become acquainted with, but his face remained unmasked? Is this an answerable question given what Kubo has already told us, or is there a speculative thread it belongs in?

Hollow body but without a mask.... I dont think theres such a thing. Anyway, the distinctive portion of a hollow is its mask, not its body, so having just its body means nothing probably, like how a shinigami is a shinigami because of his zanpakuto not because of his shinigami robe. I dont think it is answerable, nor does it need to be answered. Maybe... in the future o.O

Well, there was Sora Inoue, who broke his mask but retained the Hollow body and did not become Arrancar. Go re-check the early chapters/episodes if you need to. So it is not impossible.
