BTW what is XVM and why does it make you a better player?

XVM is a proxy program that can do a variety of things in WoT.

Most notably it is used to get the stats of the players in each game, presenting their win rates, efficiency, and an estimate of how well the teams will do.

Looks like it's going to take a bit more work to clean out all that red

It is this function that gives the mod its infamy. The prediction algorithm aside, it ALSO shows how bad or good a player stat-wise, and color-coded at that. For example, if me, Kimi, or Ute were playing, it'd show our global win rate colors of Blue (55%+), Green (51-54%) and Blue, respectively.

It's a useful guide on who in your team you can usually count on, as well as a way to pinpoint the biggest threats on the enemy team, but unfortunately some people use it as an excuse not to think (either suiciding because XVM says they're gonna lose, or doing nothing because XVM tells them they'd win).

If I'd known how globally bad that team I was playing with was, I would have shot them all in addition to the other team. Though I would have run out of ammo first.

Well there is that, but on the bright side, it ALSO goes the same for the other team. I've known games where pinning down their purple players causes a win for the team my platoon was on.

Solo pubbing is giving me an interesting experience with self-preservation and figuring out who to follow around. Right before the StuG Prokhorovka game there was a T-44 Prokhorovka game. It featured people that were not terrible, I was bottom-tier, and I got something like 3000 spotting damage. I did needlessly kill myself at the very end by flanking their final position, but we were up by 11 kills... it also caused them to break formation to aim at me.

The StuG game started with me telling everyone else that good scouting would determine the outcome, and then selfishly preserving myself when I saw our eastern wing string itself out all along the eastern rail line and get chopped to bits. At that point it became a matter of trying to preserve the survivors, but exploit them if necessary... like using our Chi-Ha as bait while it capped out in the open.

I played Artic last night. I'm in my Churchill VII, and the slowest of all the tanks. Enemy tanks are moving to cap. We get a TD in the cap. What does this Caernavon in front of me do? Run off trying to get to the other side of the map. While yelling at me to cap.

Obviously, they capped faster than we did.

And then he calls me an idiot for not capping faster.

Jesus, the sheer amount of stupid on this game.

Yes, when you see enemies closing on your cap, the SMART thing to do is to rush back as many units as you can back to the flag to reset, and maybe annihilate the cappers. However, pubbies will USUALLY try to rush to their flag and out-cap them... which never works.

I managed to save a Murovanka game by racing all the way back from the southwest corner to our cap in the NE. At the time the only other unit we had in contact was a 3601, versus a Type 59 and a Chaffee on the flag. The rest of the team tried to cap the other base... it got a little hairy, but I got the reset.

This was, incidentally, in the Indien-Panzer. I was planning on selling it when I unlocked the Leopard Prototype (still 55K away), but it is growing on me a bit, despite its sub-par aiming time.

The Indien is an okay tank for its role. Just don't get into brawls.

It's interesting how the Panther and Panther II contributed heavily to the early crippling of my win rate, while now my effectiveness in Tier 8 mediums that are not those tanks is dramatically better. Some of that is probably experience... and some is probably that those were annoying tanks to drive. Though the Panther-M10 premium isn't bad for me. (The special matchmaking helps.)

That would have been fine in a T-34 or Alecto...

...but we were in British Heavies. As in Slowest Heavy Tanks Ever British heavies. And we were in visual range of the enemy cap. I have an average speed of 20km/h; I'd have never made it.

Also, I find that when I'm in my T-34, I seem to spend an inordinate amount of time pushing heavies and TDs up hills.

Wow, just... Wow, Kimi.

Incidentally, the East Server has been acting weird for some reason. Took way long to log in, experienced funny chat problems again and... we had queue purge games. There was actually a 8x8 match earlier, for cripes sake.
