I've watched a ton of anime, and I feel the need to try something a little different.

I want an anime series that has a character that's portrayed as helpful, kind, and supportive, but show their true dark colors in the middle or near the end of the series. A twist involved would be really appreciated.

For people who haven't watched Puella Magi Madoka Magica don't look at the spoiler down below. I'm using a character from that series as an example.

I would recommend Berserk(anime). You can continue with the manga if you want more of the story.

I think there are also such a character in Steins;Gate, Otome Youkai Zakuro, and Sola.

For a more normal setting of such a character, Bungaku Shoujo is a great one with quite a twist despite being not-supernatural.

I forgot to add, there is one character in Macross Frontier, Hidan no Aria, and Code Geass R2 that also fulfil your requirement.

Another maybe? Those are darker series.
Brave 10, not the best series but the episode with "fake" friend was my favorite. Still like it.
Busou Renkin can fit at some point.
FMA kind of had this type of character.
Ga-Rei Zero not exactly the same but a very kind and loving character suddenly goes mad shit crazy and murders bunch of people, why?
Kuroshitsuji 2, don't care what everyone says but I liked this season far more than season 1 and I loved the twist at the end. Serves everyone right!
Le Chevalier D'Eon not the best series but had quiet a few of those type of characters.
Mai-HiME are kind of similar to Madoka series and have this kind of chara too. Friend who happens not to be so good.
Mawaru Penguindrum had several of those.
Otome Youkai Zakuro

Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom, not exactly but had some similar twists.
Phi Brain: Kami no Puzzle, childish series but had similar character
Soul Eater
Steins;Gate
Tales of the Abyss

As you can see there are bunch of those type of shows =)

He was portrayed to be cute, helpful, and innocent, but later shows to be guiltless and manipulative creature who caused many downfalls and tragedies the characters who interacted with him faced.
