The opening fight scene was nice like .... eye candy nice

Guess i stay be neutral on the main protagonist for now.

bonus eye candy the heroines designs are pleasant to the eyes well just my opinion

Oh lord... We have Ichika Orimura who is voiced by Kōki Uchiyama... Ichika is simply... Clueless on everything, of course that is a good harem setup from the start. He suddenly challenges someone who is representing their country (if I got that right) and if it goes anything like "Zero no Tsukaima's" way of a challenge so early in this anime, Ichika might actually pull something off and win. Of course with the help of his comrades

Houki Sinonono voiced by Yōko Hikasa.... Our lovely ending singer for this anime. Already can tell instantly that she is going "Tsundere" style towards Ichika and is always going to suspect something of a confession or somewhere like that. Based on her Kendo club activities she is probably very good at piloting a IS and is in love with melee with her constant stabbing of the poor wooden door.

Cecilia Alcott voiced by Yukana? I really loved her voicing C.C so I might enjoy that part atleast. All high and mighty, possibly going to go with the direct way of getting beat down by "said low-class" student Ichika in the next episode... I can see that happening so much.. But that is just what I'm going with.

Still an introduction episode, so there is really nothing to say about this as of yet. But it has a good start in someway, they already introduced some of the characters, and they already established that the main lead is being overestimated by all the female students of the school which sorta makes him feel uncomfortable. Of course if things go the way I expect them, he will defeat Cecilia and not be underestimated anymore by her, but would even bring up more competition by other representatives of other countries. I mean if he beats someone from England... There might be someone from China, Germany, France?? Wanting to challenge him next.

So far Ichika hasn't done anything most of us haven't seen before, he is pretty much what you would expect him to be given the situation, but we'll see after next week how he handles himself in a fight.

It's not only Ichika though, this introduction episode in general is also as normal as it gets

That is true its our average introduction episode describing the situation and theme this show is going. I'm sure the mecha fans would love this, and there is even harem hinted all over about it.

well, in the pre-OP sequence, he seemed to handle himself quite well.

Most mecha fans hate such harem/high school hijinks. This type of stuff offends them. The fact it is based off a novel which was from teh same publisher as Kampfer does not help in changing their opinions

Seeing this rendered as an "us vs. them" conflict is disheartening. Whether it's for love comedies or giant robots or both, in the end, we're all nerds.

I'm assuming that's somewhere in the future when he's more leet

But in any case, it is my opinion that we should change the standards for [Typical Harem Male Lead]. I mean for a long time now it's been common for every one of them to be averagely competent, not whiny, and have at least a few 'Heroic' moments under their belt

I think that's only the case because the first episode doesn't have enough gear-talks, Just toss in a bit of techno-exposition and they'll be happy... Until they start criticizing about how this and that works...

I was speaking more of the anime fandom as a whole than this particular show, but as long as some common ground can be found on a small level, there's hope for the upper levels.

Ah, well its still the introduction episode, but if this already offends a mecha fan to the limit of not watching it anymore. I don't know.

That is another true statement, it still hasn't talked about the setups of an IS yet.

Thats what I like about our male hero for this anime as well! He may be a little clumsy towards the features of IS and everything around it, but atleast he isn't completely useless and takes a challenge! I might actually approve of him once I see more episodes

I'm holding back firm judgement until I see more but initially I like it. I'm getting bored watching romance so I hope it takes the backseat, but if they pull it off well then I won't complain.
If they continue to churn out animation like that at the beginning of the episode I will like this show even more.
I love science fiction stuff so seeing all these floating screens pop up (like the name popping up when it was self intro time) and the little things like the sign outside the room changing from class number to break-time (I think it said) makes me giddy.

The only major problem i had at first glance with this first ep is how the setting uses normal countries, it would be much better i think if it was like Strike Witches or another kind of alternative universe.

As stated, about as cliche as you can get. No tropes were harmed in the production of this episode. But there's nothing wrong with a good old-fashioned, classic sci-fi/harem/mecha show - as long as it's well-done. And so far so good on that score - I enjoyed this.

Ichika has a belligerent streak that I rather liked, and gives him some potential beyond the total stereotype. 8-Bit isn't a huge name but the animation is very solid, and there series head writer is something of a heavyweight - Fumihiko Shimo, a veteran of KEY who worked on Kanon, Clannad and Air.
