I'm going for the same explanation I gave as to why Touma looks different in Railgun season 1.

This is Misaka Mikoto's story and we are seeing events in her eyes. (Biribiri Vision)

Think of it like the movie Rashomon where the characters tell what happened in their perspective.

Then why does he retain that design in Index II ? Its just art improving, not some biribiri vision- as funny as it would be.

But the eyes are something different.

Mystery solved.
Hahaha. Yet, this makes more sense than it should.

I'm fine with the change. I like the idea of making them actually look human here. What kind of weak cloning process are they using that would leave the eyes really weird? Since they are clones I do think having them physically be the same makes sense.

The original point was probably so they looked soulless... of course Last Order never had the large dull eye look with no explanation given for the difference, so I don't think the plot is harmed by changing the sister look. The current design is a good middle ground between the completely normal LO and the original sister look.

Yeah, I think it's fine to stay at a level where you can keep that without going full dead eyes. Different enough, but not going too far works fine I think. Plus I think the eyes aren't the only way to appear soulless, expressions and vocal delivery work well too.

uhh... Isn't it the other way around?

I personally like the more-Mikoto-look-alike new version

EDIT: Or do you mean "original" as in the Original Mikoto design? Sorry, if that's what you meant ^^U

That's how Mikoto will look like if she follows the way of elegant and polite of a girl.

Too bad, she grows up to be a tomboyish girl.

Random Japanese terminology, these eyes in Japanese otaku lingo are called レイプ目 (pron.: reipu me) (lit.: raped eyes).

Stems from illustrations and artwork that deal with those that are raped have these soul-less, "I've lost the will to live" eyes.

OTOH, it doesn't always necessarily have to be rape. It can also mean the character is also blind (PC: visually impaired) like Kawana Misaki from ONE

Or the character has gone yandere like Ayase-tan

I actually like the sisters more this way. The eyes where a little to much. You could already tell their clones by their speech pattern and the goggles.

I agree ^^ The only thing is that they have that little orange dot/orb thing in the middle of their eyes, but I really like the change of design. Makes them seem more...human.

By doing this change, JC Staff think they can sell more merchandise, which given the state of otaku in Japan, is unfortunately justified.

“Screw canonicity, we need money.”

It's a mantra of everything money touches in this world.

Second one. Fits the MISAKA better.

The Index dead eyes were too opaque in some scenes IMO

I like the redesign, though personally I think the eyes would look just about right like this:

Maybe even remove the lighter highlight and leave the one underneath. Either way the small brown spot of reflected light gave the clones a little too much life and not enough dead fish.

I like it. Looks just as modern as this one, yet keeps the "lifeless" aura.
