Has anyone thought she is beautiful when first time seeing this character?
Beautiful was the first word I thought.
Other than that I have nothing else much to say.

Well, she's a good looking character, but I'm more interested to see what kind of character she ultimately will be.

Cute for the sake of being cute while totally useless is annoying, IMO. I hope that she doesn't fall in this shameful category.

Tuka's really doesn't come into her own much later, and only because of her burgeoning... issues.

Spoiler for Stuff:

Tuka blushing heavily at Rory's reaction to all the death at Italica (played up even more in the anime with her peeking through her fingers) is one of those things I didn't catch in the manga until I went back and read through it again while remembering that folks had theorized that Tuka had leanings that way.

That's not the only hint of Tuka's "orientation" shall I say. Near the beginning of episode 5 Tuka was checking out Kurokawa while riding in the humvee. She started acting embarressed when Rory asked her if she was "interested". Then she sorta scoots away embarrassed and such. Then Rory says "so that's your type huh?". :P

Hmm... there was a single panel in the manga at that point of Rory and Tuka speaking to each other in Unintelligible (special area language), with Tuka blushing heavily, and Kurokowa sitting there with a speech-bubble that's just a question mark. I mostly overlooked it because there was no context and no way to understand what was going on there.

A couple chapters earlier, when all the refugees were being registered by name with the JSDF, there was a shot of Tuka using a sideways glance to check out Kuribayashi's assets while blushing.

So far all the clues I've seen have been early stuff.

Is Tuka ever going to get elven clothes again? She seems to be stuck in permanent refugee mode wearing a T-shirt and jeans.

Unlike the others she didn't come with any possessions, and they haven't had contact with any Elven towns or cities for her to get new clothes.

Not like an elf with t-shirt and jeans is a bad thing.

She finds them comfortable and to her liking.

I would think that now that they're selling the dragon scales money to buy them would be at hand, but it may be 1) a matter of preference (she may prefer her Earth clothes) or 2) elf clothes may only be available form elves, and as far as I can tell they haven't had contact with any more elven villages or towns.

I think it's both. Only if she knows how to make them could she get more elf clothes. It's possible, since she has lived for so long already, that she actually does know how to make them.

She's young as Elves go, especially her subrace in particular. Just because she's over a century old doesn't necessarily mean she's spent any of that time learning how to sew.

That said, I suspect the skill would be a lot more commonplace at a technology level before the advent of sewing machines and mass production of textiles.

Why can't Tuka do some more fighting? They could cut out Rory, who's less of a character than a bundle of lusts. The writers can't expect us to believe in the trans-gate fantasy world without developing characters in it. Only Pina has had any development, and she just represents the nobility; Tuka represents your average elf-in-the-street (woods) and has the most interesting background of any female character, which the writers should really have taken another episode to develop.

Or you could wait patiently. Preferably without insulting the characters who don't happen to be your favorite just because you feel that your favorite isn't getting enough focus.

Okay, a more concrete objection to the focus on Rory is that she's a unique individual rather than part of a community in the gate world that should get more description to build a living world. Saying 'there are Elves in this world, but we won't tell you much about them until the goth-loli has molested Itami' is pretty much saying that the distinctive communities of this world don't matter. Elves need development to escape the Tolkien stereotype anyway. It's a shame because the descriptions of the imperial nobility's and the villages were brief but very effective. The concept of apostles is interesting, but I would be happier if Rory was introduced much later than she is.

BTW, I'd imagine Lelei, Tuka and Rory are meant to be a maiden, mother, seducer triad? The mother's lesbianism and trauma seems to be used to make effectively without sexuality, which says a lot about some animes' distorted view of female sexuality.

Do we have to view the thing under the sexuality angle? Really?

Hard to exclude it. I call Tuka a 'mother' because of her calming, mature presence (her natural, pre-trauma personality?) and;

Spoiler for spoiler evidence:

Leilei's intelligence and subtle reliance on Itami is very maidenly and child-like. Rory is..just Rory.
