On Monday September 19th 2005, i went to Asakusa Kannon Temple, as part of a Tokyo Morning Tour. After walking down Nakamise-dori, and buying a bunch of souvenirs, I wanted my picture taken in front of the 5 story pagoda. None of the other tourists were around, so i could not ask them to take my picture. Looking around, i spotted a guy taking a picture of his wife and daughter in front of the pagoda. Waiting until he finished, i then approached him. I was so nervous about trying to remember how to ask, i even messed up, すみません. Fortunately, the guy was nice about it, and noticed the camera i was holding out. He smiled and said "picture desu ka" to which i was relieved and said "はい". I moved over to stand in front of it and his family waited patiently. He raised up the camera, then stopped and started speaking to his daughter and waving her to move towards me. I had no idea what was going on, but she moved over and was all blushing and shy and managed to say "is ok?" well i had no idea why her dad wanted her in the photo but i was not going to try and find out because i was already flustered enough by just trying to get the guy to take my picture, so i just said "はいはい" and then her dad finally took the picture. I bowed politely and managed to get ありがとうございます out correctly. When he gave me back my camera he said very clearly "now have picture cute japanese girl". I smiled, said ありがとう again and we parted. I managed to get out of sight of them before i fell down laughing at his parting statement. I know some passerby must have thought me a bit crazy, because i was sitting there on the gravel laughing uncontrollably for 5 minutes.

I've heard that about Totoro. Other Ghibli actors don't like to party with him because one he's got a few in him he becomes uncontrollable. I heard that once he started showing off some of his toys to Kiki and she totally freaked.
