Not sure if I'll watch this, I guess I'll check the first episode to form an opinion, but the current art I saw posted doesn't excite me. =\

Once again, it depends on what aspect you're referring to is not to be taken serious, or at least what your definition of a "serious" show is.

Trailers look really FABULOUS, but the first chapter didn't impress me at all

I mean shows I wouldn't necessarily call serious such as E7 and Gurren Lagann both had people dying in them. Hell even Soul Eater had the villain killed at the end.

Death is NOT a sure fire way to create tension. See enough movies and you'll understand. It doesn't matter WHAT it revolves around, as long as the story telling is competent, it'll be entertaining.

I haven't seen that before, thanks. Wow, I was just thinking "that actually looks like pretty cute art compared to the norm..." and then I click on it and it says it's illustrated by Ayumi Kurashima.

Hmmm, the Star Driver at in today's Sengoku Basara 2 had good action scenes. Hope they put the CM online soon.
