Well, that was not so bad, I guess, but "hack and slash" adventures get kinda boring for me in general. Who knows, though, maybe it will be different?

The very moment the young lady picked up the MC from the streets the first thing I thought was "Oh no... an innocent looking pretty face who is a black widow in disguise." And I was right, which is unnerving because rarely do I guess these kind of things.

I will try the next few eps, but at the moment I am kinda doubtful. Still, maybe I will be surprised?

Well that went just about expected. Once again though, White Fox proves what they can do with what is obviously a limited budget (The only time it really didn't work was when Aria was revealed for the vindictive bitch that she was) and gave the show a fitting old-school 90s feel. And Taku Iwasaki's soundtrack is again full of win. The comedy moments need work though (See FMA: Brotherhood for how to do it properly). Don't expect it to revolutionize seinen, but expect it to at least keep your interest.

And yeah, it did feel rushed, even if it was only one chapter.

Was wondering why the music was so damn good, then I found out who was in charge of it. Haven't kept up with Akame in a while, so I forgot how no-nonsense Tatsumi was when it came to killing Aria, cold-blooded, but she didn't deserve any less.

Nice to know there aren't much censors in this. Some of the comedy parts felt a bit awkward imo but overall well done. The first chapter has a lot of pages so I'm glad it covered most of it except maybe some minor parts.

Decent start!

About the pacing, they hit all the notes from the first chapter only skipping one very very short minor scene, if they had broken it up into 2 episodes it would have been slow and bloated, I prefer this pacing to something that drags on just to fill time (like the slow down they did towards the end of AoT).

The first episode was quiet good and enjoyable. For a first episode it did quiet a good job of the adaptation the first chapter of the manga into anime form, all the voice seem to match up well, music is also nice, and the animation is good. Overall a nice start to the series.

I'm impressed. I've been aware of the manga for some time now and some friends told me it was good but I never actually got around to reading it. Still though, this looks like it could be one of the better shows of the season.

I'm kind of split on whether or not I should read through the manga or just enjoy the anime as I am.

always read the source material if you can. anime adaptations these days are just huge giant commercials most of the time. in your case i say wait to see how they handle the next 2 episodes. i'm sure there will be manga readers comparing it.

Overall, a good episode. I'm liking what I see so far. The only thing that irritated me was Tatsumi. The idiotic, boob-obsessed protagonist type has been done to death, and I found him to be annoying as hell. Although, he did get points back for slicing that girl up without any moral qualms.

I'll continue watching this, but like others mentioned, there's something missing. It's not quite as interesting or thought-provoking as Aldnoah Zero or Tokyo Ghoul's first episodes.

Meh it was decent but hardly mind-blowing. I'll give it a few eps before I decide.

Episode 1 Comments:
  • Pretty good animation
  • MC in the beginning is a lot more op than I remember in the manga
  • The voice acting is pretty good. A lot of the voices match what I pretty much expected.
  • Poor MC, got scammed on his first day.
  • Some of the coloring a bit off to me. Seems a little to bright for my taste.

Overall, a pretty solid episode. Looking forward to the next one.

Haven't read the manga but I found the first episode to be interesting.

The only thing I felt didn't quite work was the sudden change in mood at the end from seriously sad when his last friend died to suddenly comedic - kind of ruined the sad moment with the abrupt change. It would have worked better if the ending continued with the darker mood.

Anyway, I'll watch a few more episodes until all the hack and slash bores me (unless the plot continues to be interesting).

Everything's great....except for the opening. It sounds really amateurish.

What a great start for this series! Nothing stalled down, nothing sped up for the first episode!

I don't mind the dark nature but HOLY SHIT DAT ENDING.

Pretty much figured that the two other people he was with got killed off.

Was true enough to the manga for me. I enjoyed it. Only thing I disliked was the coloring, which seems a tad too bright for what Akame Ga Kill is meant to be.

Never read the manga but I liked the first episode. I heard that this was pretty dark but I am glad that it tries to mix in some humor as well. Although sometimes the humor felt misplaced. The scene where the girl was having her rant also felt just weird to me, most likely because of her face. I also like the MC as he is both naive but can serious at the right time. So far a pretty good start.

This show is so edgy, I cut my hand on the .mkv.
Seriously though, this show is at best decent. It's been hyped as hell by two factions though.
1. The faction that thinks gore and violence makes a show good. The torture in Akame is pretty much shock value, all the time... for no reason. The bad people torture innocents. So far, even in the manga, there's no actual reason for this. They are all just evil. Except for one character that does not take pleasure in torturing, but does it anyway. Which brings be to...
2. The masochists in love with Esdese. She had no actual redeeming qualities, and is a total Mary Sue. Because she's hot, really strong and tortures people, she's popular.

Please don't compare this to Attack On Titan and Knights Of Sidonia. Sidonia especially is MILES better then this.

Can you refrain from talking about a character that hasn't appeared yet?
If you want to rant, go to the manga thread please.
