1) Black Lagoon and 2) BL TSB .. I'm enjoying every single episodes of it.
3) Rozen Maiden Overture. This is how an OVA should be done .. simply beautifull.. but then again, I'm Gin fan.. so prolly a bit biased.
4) Suzumiya Haruhi... Amazing story with a little bit of everything nicely inserted and merged.. Couldnt asked for more ..
Last 1 is kinda hard to choose (Iroha, Code Geass, Death Note .. all still running and I want to know the ending before I give a full rating) >.< .. in the end I choose 5)Saiunkoku Monogatari.. simply because the 1st season is nearly towards the end(compared to the other ongoing) yet still very captivating and flawless.. in a way.
I cant find Mushishi .. or its definitely gonna be the 1 selected :/ .. I demand a redo voting

~ black lagoon (1) (stunning...first time i saw this my jaw dropped...and tbh the 2nd season wasnt nearly as good as the first)

~ welcome to HNK (great slice of life drama that could actually happen )

~ asatte no houkou (love drama and coping with change...magical and captivating ^__^)

~ soukou no strain (i was surprised by this one O.o quite a bold opening to a series)

OK, here is my list of five in alphabetical order, and the obligatory disclaimer: the thread title says "favorite series" so the selection is based on my own personal enjoyment, not a critical or technical rating of each show.

• Bokura ga Ita - This is not your typical high school romance. There are no real heros, villains, or perfect individuals, but a cast of very believeable characters with flaws and problems that will ring true for most people and provide lots of emotional ups and downs. Plus Nana-chan's voice simply induces melting.
• Kanon 2006 - Great animation and a gripping story. Just about the only series running right now that I have to watch the instant the download is complete.
• Ouran Koukou Host Club - I still cannot believe that I ever got past the yaoi-istic OP when I watched the first episode. This series was hysterically funny, with biting satire and some wicked parodies, but it also boasted some serious themes and presented some scenes that were quite capable of putting a lump in my throat.
• Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu - The number one criticism of SHnY seems to be that it can't be that good because some people like it too much. Interesting theory. I'm kind of pissed at Santa though: I only had one thing on my Christmas list this year, but there wasn't a Living Humanoid Interface under the tree.
• Utawarerumono - Hardly a masterpiece, but it had an interesting story, good characters and was a very fun ride overall.

And honorable mentions for two shows that I really wish I could have included on the first list:

Thanks for pointing this out. It's rare that I love a show so much I watch it to the end (or at least keep watching it every week if there's no end in sight), so I voted for the shows I love that much:

Thing that startled me about the list was that they spelled Katekyo Hitman Reborn wrong. They spelled it like the misspelling on the animesuki directory... I hope someone at animesuki will finally fix it before this typo spreads so much that it becomes accepted as the real series title T_T

If I interpreted Favourite as the kind of show I not only enjoyed thoroughly but am completely assured of its quality and believe is truly good, then it'd have to be...

I haven't been so pleasantly surprised in a very long time. Yes I know it hasn't finished yet so it's not fair, but the first 12 eps was enough for me to pick it.

-Ayakashi
Only because of Bakeneko, which really is enough of a reason. (Another thing I don't need to explain)

-FLAG
It was only six episodes but I am ever so relieved at a serious and IMO successful attempt at the world of war journalism and politics, and I personally liked the distinctly Tibetan sort of aesthetic/background. My one minor and personal nitpick is I wanted to see more of Ichiyanagi and his backstory. Where's the next six! I can't wait.

Spoiler for Tie for last slot:

The last slot would a tie between Hataraki Man and Kemonozume - on one hand I must be honest and say really, really liked the themes and idea behind Hataraki Man rather than Kemonozume; BUT the latter blew everything else out of the water in terms of daringness and originality in presentation (animation, designs, direction) - while Hataraki Man had appaling animation and mediocre direction in comparison.

I somehow felt like I "got into" Hataraki Man more than Kemonozume (probably because it's a real-life type of story) but Kemonozume also has to be greatly commended for taking a step in an admirable direction. Plus, it's not like I didn't like the characters in Kemonozume entirely either... (and The Monkey should really make it win by default, but...)

Spoiler for Almost there + Honourable mentions:

Really-almost-on-the-list-but-just-fell-short would be Mushishi for sure. So beautiful and light and soothing, and Ginko is nothing short of awesome... It's the fact that the anime industry produces things like these which make me a lot less worried about all the other stuff out there. Unfortunately, I had to bump it down a bit because I felt that the direction was a little too light for my tastes and some episodes just felt honestly dull/hard to like.

A very honorable mention would go to Ouran High School Host Club simply because I am so surprised that I enjoyed it and had a good laugh with it, although the ending (and I have to admit, some of the fandom...) was a bit... hm.... And the humour succeeded only under the right directors, but when it did, it was the kind of crack that I like. I blame this show for feeding the flames of mindless fangirling in me (that would later emerge during the holidays).
Plus, it did have pretty good production valuse...

And no matter how insanely popular/overhyped/what have you this show is, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu is another show I cannot deny enjoying. I didn't appreciate some of the more gratituous details, but it was most certainly solid, and I absolutely love the dynamics between Haruhi and Kyon. For some reason it felt a little more genuine and truly likeable than the typical tsundere-main character type of stuff. There was something nice about the mix of comedy and seriousness in the story that I greatly appreciated.
It helps that the production details were quite commendable to say the least.

Another one would be Paradise Kiss. It's a pity I felt disappointed by the pivotal penultimate episode (or was it the last one?) and that the characters could have had a little bit of an extra push to them, or this'd have been next to Mushishi.
I don't care how different it was from the manga, but I loved this. The unusual choices in direction lent it a surprising freshness and I think it brought out the feeling of a high-end city atmosphere really well. Never been to Tokyo but after watching the show I suddenly became much more aware of how there were places with similar airs even over here if one bothered to take note of it. Not a huge fan of the story itself but it was most refreshing seeing some characters quite different from the usual anime stereotypes, but not screaming "hey we're trying to be different look at us" either.

And if you are wondering why I haven't mentioned a particular show, it's because I still cannot make a proper decision about it. It could make it or break it in the next half of the show and I won't venture to guess too hard just yet. A lot depends on how they do the character development...



Of course, since that list on the website is only for shows that started in 2006, Noein, Mushishi and Paradise Kiss (among other bastard children of 2005 and 2006) are off the list...
