Magica Wars (Mahou Shoujo Taisen)
An anime adaptation of Magica Wars (Mahō Shōjo Taisen, or literally "Magical Girl Wars"), a project from the otaku variety program 2.5 Jigen Terebi (2.5D TV), has been green-lit for a television premiere next April. The anime studio Gainax is producing the project, and the anime magazines will announce more details such as the cast and broadcast stations on December 10.
The project is not only spawning an anime, but DMM Games will launch a free-to-play smartphone browser game called Magica Wars Tactics (pictured below) in December. The game has the following premise: You are the hero with a special mission. Protect Japan from wave after wave of invading "Magatsuhi," with the support of 47 local magical girls! (There are 47 prefectures in Japan.) Magica Wars Lock-On, a fast-paced 3D touch-shooting game app for iOS, will also debut in December. DMM.com is exclusively selling a pack for the popular New Year's greeting card software Fudemame. The official site for the project will update with a page on the anime announcement at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday (7 a.m. EST). The project is running its second illustration contest on the pixiv website, and the winning entries will appear as characters in the anime. Sounds interesting, though I know next to nothing about the individual prefectures of Japan. Maybe the series will help with that a bit.
I wonder what a spinoff set in the US would be like. hmm, "Sailor" Michigan. I'm thinking she would be dressed in dark blue, and have ice or weather manipulating powers, I think she would also be a bit of "Grease Monkey" and have a large magical monkey wrench for a weapon.

*Sees that kz is doing the op theme*
*sees that it's just the b-side to the hamatora single* Damn, any other anime in recent memory that couldn't even get its own OP cd single to sell and got a b-side song from an anime airing the season before it? |

Premise looks interesting and while Gainax have been degraded to something not akin to its old self, I will let them make this a fun show and the character designs that are based on Pixiv winning illustrations are indeed superb (the Aomori and Tokyo magical girls in particular).

And who exactly is the "hero" from the summary?
Is that one of the girls, or do we have another case of "male MC was retconned out from the anime adaption"?

its Ghost Madoka time!!!

the alternate title sounds like a crossover franchise game of the Mahou Shoujo genre done by Banpresto which had yet to exist....... though, local heroes as magical girls is still fine by me......

And Anna Yano×Livetune (C3-Bu's Shape My Story) for the OP? Nice choice, although I hope that this sells much higher than Shape My Story, given the story about why this song became the OP.

Oh, I see. I don't think that using a B-side to an already released single is a good sign. :/ But Gainax has already been struggling when it comes to commercial success, so this is no surprise.
I just hope that this series is at least a decent watch.
