Wait, what? Why would you want to watch troll subs?

The Google should be able to get you to see the first episode without downloading it.

Because I've already seen the real subs and I need a laugh.

Since this is KEY and someone already brought up HR , I will make the assumption that the members of the SSS are all suicides?

I agree that was my initial problem when I saw the anime images. They ost alot of the detail in the eyes.

The only thing I'm really worried about is that KEY will start trying to be TOO ambitious, and make something horrible in the process.

And there's none of that KEY 'magic' scenery, if you know what I mean.

But still, they haven't made it clear what they're fighting for actually.
From what I interpret if you conform you become a NPC as you lose your sense of self. Of course that does not explain how the first student population come about.

Since Yuri mentions that they don't ago how long have they been in there?

RAGE AGAINST GOD!! The lesson of Episode 1

@Ninja: I wouldn't be surprised of that was the motto/slogan for the SSS
For clarification, it would seem that the slogan is actually 'No God, No Buddha, No Angels' BUT!! Yes, there's an Allah (plz don't hurt us), yes there is kami, yes there's Shiva.

We need to fix the slogan, No God, No Buddha, No Angel, No Allah, No Kamis and no Ganesh or any other 6 armed Gods. Is there anything else I missed?

Anyway, today's lesson (which is pretty brief and crap anyway but there's more detailed stuff out there.

Spoiler for What I learnt from Angel Beats!!:

And in the back of my head, this is what they were actually singing

Quote:
Mine eyes have seen sod all that's emanated from the Lord
And if He's really there the human race has been ignored
Excuse me if I don't believe in heavenly reward
His "truth" is just a con

I've read old and new testaments - it's been a kind of cause
So many contradictions and so many hopeless flaws
It's hard to credit this old tripe has caused so many wars
His "truth" is just a con

Fairy story - what's it to ya?
Fairy story - what's it to ya?
Fairy story - what's it to ya?
His "truth" is just a con

I have read a fiery Gospel and that's full of crap as well
It was writ a hundred years after events of which it tells
And if you think this Truth, then you are gullible as hell
This "truth" is just a con

OK, if He's omniscient, then why the need to pray?
'Cause if He does know everything, He knows it anyway
And if He's that omnipotent, why are things not OK?
His "truth" is just a con

Fairy story - what's it to ya?
Fairy story - what's it to ya?
Fairy story - what's it to ya?
His "truth" is just a con

There's no statistic proof that anything is changed by prayer
So He either doesn't listen, or He simply doesn't care
The logical deduction is there's simply no-one there
His "truth" is just a con

Now, please don't be offended if you don't like what you've read
But try and think about it - yes, I mean think! Use your head...
And if I'm wrong - I guess I'm gonna find out when I'm dead
If "truth" is just a con

Fairy story - what's it to ya?
Fairy story - what's it to ya?
Fairy story - what's it to ya?
His "truth" is just a con

Well, enough bashing onto setting.

I think they just get replaced by a new personality or something and by that point you completely forget that you are well dead and in the afterlife.

But really, since when did the afterlife look like some modern Japanese city?

I'll give this a whirl but I hope there is a good overarching plot and it doesn't go too deeply into the depressing and srsz business territory.

That had to be the most whirlwind introduction to anything I've seen since Wings of Rean in 2006. Like did I miss an episode? Who are these people, why are they so annoying and why should I care if they are dead and about anything to do with their plight, whatever that actually might be? What is with the whole SOS-Dan vibe and a character that sounds and acts just like Haruhi Suzumiya? What's with the inconsistent character design? Why is the music so irritating? Why does it keep jumping from scene to scene with such a rapid pace that it made the episode of K-On!! I just saw look like a Dickens novel? Why do they cram all of the exposition into the second half so as to make it that much harder to digest in one sitting? Why is there just a random concert scene near the end? What's the bloody rush? What the hell was this?! ARGH SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!!

I can't believe it but I feel exhausted after watching this.

It's an ontological mystery, sir, and you and i are as confused as Otonashi at this point.

I think Otonashi's full name is Otonashi Meru...

We are thrown right into the middle of a scene where a guy is woken up by a girl and she starts babbling stuff to him and we are given no context for what is going on. A guy gets killed, that guy gets killed again, then very rapidly we are rushed into a clubroom scene where we have no idea who's talking or what the deal is because again no context for anything has been established yet. Key's absurd slapstick comedy is put on display a few times out of nowhere. All the while in between all of this everything is being treated like it's super urgent, but still no context.

Finally in the second half we get a little bit of context for what is going on with the whole Tenshi thing, but it's still extremely vague and then there's some talk about an operation and "lifting", then boom random concert scene out of nowhere and the angel comes and there's an awkward fire fight and then episode over wtf just happened?

It was breakneck pace, nothing is really established, it was just altogether a confusing mess of a first episode and there's still amazingly little context for what is going on by the end of it all. That's my explanation as best I can give it going by what this episode gave me to work with.

Call me crazy but I thought the girls 'babbling' was giving a liberal amount of context of what was going on...

Yeah.

lol.

I found the first monologue to be as informative as hell, considering the circumstances the protagonist has been put under.

And here's where we differ, Kaoishin: I think it's actually pretty straightforward. Then again, I've been following this show for a while, and I guess having a basic synopsis helps a lot.

Still... this episode can't be that confusing. It's all:
Spoiler for sleep-deprived rambling:

So, yeah, not TOO hard to understand.

Eh, I think I'll get drunk next time before I watch episode 2. Perhaps it'll make more sense.
