i'm not a big fan of her reign of terror moments, but they're good for laughs. hopefully they'll play less of a role as the series goes on. anyways, it looks like we're finally getting to the theme days? yesssssssss.

It had to be done eventually.
(But I'm sure she'd try cosplaying anyway.) Satsuki doesn't fit any of Aki Toyosaki's usual roles at all. Didn't realize it was her in episode 1, and was shocked to see her name in the cast list later. But she's doing a great job voicing Satsuki~ And the rest of the cast as well. I haven't listened to much of the drama CD, but I'm liking the anime's voices over the drama CD's voices so far. |

As for the 'reign of terror' thing: although I suppose you may be able to say that Misaki's demon scenes increased in intensity...to be honest, my envisioning of Misaki's strength is/would be more of a shounen depiction of straight up battle auras/power level, as opposed to these surreallistic super-deformed caricatures which seem to be aiming more for comedy. It's kinda strange to be saying this, but yes what I mean is that for me Misaki has a bit of a badass shounen fighting character appeal. On to the episode itself: I don't think this episode demonstrated the conflict/tension that well. Usui's characterization came off as a bit random at the end--his initiative/genuine approval in participating in the boy's cosplay plan was portrayed a bit too strongly, so that he appeared to be Misaki's genuine enemy in condoning such stupidity, which made his sudden switcharound at the end where he leads the guys to start helping her seem inconsistent. The truth is, Usui's real motivation for joining in wasn't because he thought dragging in unwilling customers or forcing them to play strip 'rock paper scissors' was 'fun' or 'interesting', and more because he wanted to mitigate the outright rebellion the boys had against Misaki near the end, which he saw coming. Related to this, and the 'conflict/tension' remark I made above: in the anime, it is less clear that Misaki's apology to the guys is for having genuinely done something wrong, coming off instead as something she was forced to do due to needing the guys' help to run the cafe. However, on a more positive note: I've officially decided I like Usui's voice actor. Although the character issues in the latter half, as well as the somewhat laughably bad English, didn't carry this impression all the way through the episode, I found the delivery of Usui's lines this episode quite enjoyable in general. With regards to skipping all the way to ch. 12 for the next episode: this was actually one of the chapters I was referring to with my 'early Misaki development' remarks, and plotwise it isn't especially connected to other events, so overall this reshuffling might turn out pretty well. I agree though that they definately need to get back to 3-11 immediately afterwards--that's the actual plot, after all. |

Yet again, this episode how great a Misaki plays the tsundere archetype. Heck, the three stooges call the stereotype themselves; 'Misaki in seitokaichou outfit is good, but maid is also nice!' lol
Really, the maid outfit is obviously designed for Misaki. It really does suit her, especially when you compare her to the other girls who works in the cafe. So moe indeed, though admittedly, I didn't like her nekomimi (then again I never liked it in the first place ) As for Usui... yet another ho hum appearance by him. I dunno, but I'm starting to think this is actually worse than me outright hating his character (like say Domyuuji of Hana Yori Dango fame)... at least then I feel SOMETHING for that guy. Oh well, I guess I'll keep watching the show just for Misaki lol.
