Well, I thought it was made pretty clear during all the previous team battles that the group has kinda grown close together. I mean, they've known each other for a while now and been through some things together (like the Brew Arc), so it's pretty logical for them to be friends at this point.

Also, if you read the scanlations, you'd pick up some friendship in their conversations.

Actually, now that I think of it, Black Star would likely have the same kind of reaction to the news as Kid would. Maka is their friend now, and I'm sure if you found out someone was going to try to ASSASSINATE your friend you'd be pretty pissed too, right? Especially if the people plotting it were in the same vicinity as you but you couldn't do anything about it.

Since Black*Star acts so in situations I'm sure are entirely only friendship, I'm pretty sure we could say Death the Kid is responding on similar motives. It sucks for Death the Kidd since he's so unable to take action.

@Orange: Exactly, XD. He's probably mostly POed in that scene from chapter 63 because he can't do anything about stopping them and he knows it. That likely pisses him off more than the fact that they're aiming to kill Maka.

I just read the manga. I watched the anime first so I quickly scanned the first 37 chapters. Its a real shame they had to diverge to end the anime. The story is kick ass. I can't wait to see what happens next.

same here. I actually dropped SE after watching the 1st episode. Then when the anime's ended, picked up the manga, and also picked up the anime again and watched it through. The manga's awesome!! as always, better done than its anime counterpart. It's great to see some development on Maka and Soul FINALLY in the manga!! Been waiting for so long. It's always interesting to see how Soul comes from a family of musicians, and that he's been running away from the piano by choosing the path of a weapon (but not sure exactly WHY he runs away in the first place).

I thought the anime was awesome too. At least until it diverged. The beginning was great too, the music, all of it.

As for the manga, since that's what this thread is for.. I agree that its about time for some development on Maka and Soul's part.

I'm pretty sure the reason Soul runs away is because of how he felt inferior to his brother, who is an extremely talented violinist.
I wonder if Wes Evans will come into the story... I see no reason for him not to be alive.

Wes has to come into the story. He's already been referred to, therefore he has to make some kind of official appearance that isn't a flashback.

I fail miserably at composing music (despite being a choir nerd since 5th grade), but the way the lyrics were constructed sounds like it'd be a rap song. And strangely I hear a female voice. A bimbo female voice. That's the only way I can describe it....

(See page 16.) Spoiler* for Chapter 30: BlackStar also said that he'd beat down anyone who was teasing Chrona (See page 18.)
