While Oni's and Hiro's relationship seems to be perfect by how well they work together in the mecha, I feel like in the future those two might have some tension between them, mainly because of their different loyalties. Oni is only loyal to herself, disregards all others as weaklings and worthless and seems to only work for the adults by force than out of her own will. She is selfish and rather seems to want to run away from all this, as long as her darling is with her, than stay and fight. Hiro however is deeply loyal to the adults and his role protecting them. He is also loyal to his team and would never leave them aka chose Oni and running away over staying with them and protecting the adults. While he does not fear Oni as a demon, his unquestioning loyalty to the adults might annoy Oni with time whereas Hiro finds it frustrating that his partner doesn't give a hoot about anyone of his family an sees them all as losers. Their goals are just too different, one wants to run away from everything and the other wants to stay and fulfill his role. That's going to cause problems for sure in the future.
I hope our normal mecha crews can fight and finish off some Klaxoaurier on their own soon. They needed again Strezilia to fight this one on fair ground and to finish it off. While they helped in putting it down, they were still saved from a dangerous situation where they all might have been crushed. The part where Strezilia passed Delphinum with that smile/smirk was also a bit worrisome. I worry that Oni might lord her great compatibility with darling over Ichigo which can only end in a bitch fight and with Ichigo probably doing worse on her own synchronization as her mind wanders to Oni and Hiro. :/

While I think some readers are disappointed it took so long for Hiro and 02 to be piloting again, what the story writers have done is to strongly emphasise the importance of compatibility between pilots. Assuming they follow through on this, it is not going to be some gimmick but a core part of the entire show. I think it also helped the character development - if Hiro and 02 had simply been able to pilot the whole time, we would probably have had less development between Hiro and 02 and also the other characters.
So by refusing to take the easy route the story writers have given us more character development, more relationship development, have emphasised a certain aspect of the story and given us a nice pay-off in ep4. |

The show is popular enough that Bandai will release Robot Spirits and SH Figuarts figures. |

Here is something that's been bothering me. Does Nana and that other guy not have any sense of self preservation? So the soldiers show up to escort Zero Two and they were planning to leave while "the FRANXX are keeping the klaxosaur occupied". And as we learned in episode 1 if the FRANXX lose everyone is dead anyway. Yet Nana is all like "Go with them Zero Two".

Nana's a stickler for rules. Her reasoning for a lot of things I'd consider stupid are because there hasn't been clearance issued. She only let Mitsuru go because he was a parasite (and thus authorized) and Hiro hadn't been made one. I do think she cares about the kids though, it's just that if it comes down to rules vs lives, she'd pick the rules. That, and she clearly doesn't get along with Zero Two, the two are like water and oil without a catalyst, they're not mixing.
Hachi doesn't seem as uptight though. He's just to the point. He doesn't say anything excessive and he immediately corrects Zero Two that he's referring to her abilities while Nana goes with the statement she isn't human. For him, I think its like he'll follow orders but he won't go out of his way to make things worse.

We really got to appreaciate Trigger's animation style. Animating that giant monster without relying heavilly on CGI was just beautiful. It's almost a lost art these days
Looks like the plot is finally going forward. Curious to know a bit more about that world, including 02's origin aswell the other single digits too. Also, the monsters seem to react only where high energy is being produced which can explain why there was no protection in the zone our MCs were until 02's arrival. It seems they didn't pilot or create high energy bursts before they started training with real robots. Or it's something else that hopefully will be explained later. |

you can definitely tell Trigger did this ep instead of A-1. much softer than how A-1 typically does things. I'm happy they're finally able to pilot together. lets see what the fallout is though, from breaking papa's orders. the nine are probably those pale kids from the OP, and i'll bet they'll play into the story soon.
also, scrunchy faced smile 02 is amazing.

It's hard to say how things would work out between Hiro and 02 if there were no new "events" and the adults just let them get on with it. There is a saying that familiarity brings contempt - would 02 or Hiro actually find each other to be boring after a while? Probably not. Maybe in such a scenario the biggest problem would be 02's antics - she's quite a troublemaker it seems. Will she calm down a bit with her darling? There seems to be some fairly heavy foreshadowing the 02 and Hiro are going to run away (elope?) at some point. It's already come up three times. However, I think that'll only happen if the adults are causing them lots of problems. My guess is that this will go away for a couple of episodes then come up again later. If there's one thing I can think of that would almost certainly cause real tension between 02 and Hiro it would be the return or Hiromi. I can imagine those dry old geezers at APE deciding to see what happens if she and Hiro are made to partner again and whether Hiro really has changed or something. |

While Naomi's up in the air (hospital first, then get rid of the failure or reassess her since Hiro is clearly the problem), I'm pretty sure her ex-partner is dead. Though, it would be a twist if he and Naomi both got to know one another in the hospital and they pilot the Franxx that was supposed to be Hiro and Naomi's. Sixth Ranger style.

Except for that one line that Nana told Hiro to make him feel better, no one has heard of Naomi since. Bet she was quietly transported out.
