Ah, so the fingernail mark is unrelated? I'm kinda forgetting the details already.

But if it's mere make-up stuff, it's an even more neglectable detail.

Well it's related to being a Puella Magi so its absence is odd (though, as you say, negligible), but yeah, it doesn't appear to have anything to do with the Soul Gem itself.

I always took the presence of the mark of the finger nail to be a kind of brand to let show you are a magical girl but I guess the people in charge of the animations figured the ring was enough...

A shame really I thought it look kinda cool.

The picture being put under scrutiny is from the BD when, whether it was conceptualized after episode 3 or not (that seems possible, for the record), it should have been present either way. Not sure why it's worth more than a passing note, but meh; cool design, but utterly meaningless (I didn't even notice it until I saw pictures focusing on it, actually
