I broke when Yumemi start projecting her memories, the kids all saying how much they love the stars projection. That which I thought didn't hit me with as much awe as how amazing I've heard it would be, doesn't matter though. Yumemi is the star of the show, she is like the saint of robots representing every good in their automated soul if they have one. She took it on herself to apologize on behalf of the battle drone, even the one last wish she had was not about herself, but how she can continue to be of service to humans. It being a common theme throughout this show, that commitment and selflessness coming from a self-proclaimed broken, bargain model in her last seconds makes it even more beautiful but sad at the same time. Junker made a good call telling her a white lie that he came for her to bring her to a new workplace, would definitely love to see him make good of that promise some way or another in the epilogue if that is what the movie will be about.

So the movie ED single has surfaced and I just took a listen to it...
Hoshi no Fune is a Lia-song. It was basically guaranteed to be beautiful by default.
Gentle Jena is Gentle Jena. It was also guaranteed to be beautiful by default.

Out of the two, I must say Hoshi no Fune is my favorite though. I feel like Gentle Jena might have been better with a different singer, maybe? Like, couldn't Lia just have sung both songs? Her voice is just incredibly soothing to listen to, y'know? Well in any case, I was always planning on this, but now it's confirmed... I am so buying this single. I have been swayed to purchase lesser songs than this in the past.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I just wanted to share my thoughts on this story.

It was around October this year when I picked-up Planetarian and followed through from beginning to end.

The interactions and dialogues between robot Yumemi and the Junker not only were funny but very immersive and personal, as if the viewer was the only witness right there following their daily lives.

I chose to rewatch Planetarian again for the Christmas season, since the story had beautiful drama moments that left me at the verge of crying.

A world already ravaged by war that longer needed a friendly robot to continue servicing humans with duty and joy.

A world that virtually forgot such little things that make us humans like, for example, star garzing and story telling. Elements that profoundly affected the junker to dare dreaming and imagine, as he listened to Yumemis' stories and comments.

But, my heart truly ached in tears in the final episode like the Junker did, as Yumemi laid half wasted and with a few minutes before running out of power forever, telling the customer she was glad to have worked at the planetarium bringing smiles to the customers.

She thought she was broken as with the passing of years no more customers came, since people left the city due to the war, but she was told to be at her post since someday they would return to pick her up.

When she escorted the junker leaving the safety of the planetarium and strolling the city for the first time since the advent of war, she naively pondered how come the world had ended up broken.

But, it truly wrecked my heart when the junker in tears told her, with white lies, he came to pick her up in order to escort her outside the walls of the city where many folks dwelled outside in hopes of finding her a new job for everyone else to listen to her stories just as the Junker did.

Yumemi passed away, but the Junker secured her memory card and survived long enough, as the epilogue implied he did, in order to deliver to other survivors that might appreciate the gift for story telling.

BTW, beautiful ending theme played at the end of the final episode.

As far as I understand the movie will adapt one of the future side stories that sprang off of the game series. There were four of these illustrated novels iirc, and the movie will adapt one of them that focused on the "Junker" later on in his life.

Watched episode 1..

Wow, it was so nice of her to try to give him a "flowers"... I do wonder if she knows that everyone else in the mall is gone, and she just pretend that the repair team is still there to make the customer happy. Nicely done episode... but I fear the end of t his anime would be sad. Either she runs out of battery or something bad happens to her and that man. >_<

In the future, apparently adware has a moe face telling you to buy shit. For some reason she seems to run on Windows 10 or something. Perhaps in heaven, stuff doesn't run on Windows?

And yea she has a really sweet voice, and that was half the reason I watched was because of her great VA, but that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that knows me.

I'm also happy Key didn't do anything dumb like make him dying after getting back the SD card, as well as me being skeptical since Key is sorta old hat and their anime has been a lot more hit than miss so this was a breath of fresh air. Oh and starry skies, you can usually get me to watch a thing simply based on that.

This anime made me cry today. Glad that Kuzuya was able to take Yumemi's memory card. I hope he can revive her one day.
And just one comment.. I think it's wrong to throw away his gun. In that post apocalyptic world.. I think having a gun will increase a person's chance of survival.

The action at the final episode was nice... bu t what really got my attention is the drama. This is one of the better anime that I've watched from 2016.

...Which is, of course, the entire point.

Solid adaptation overall. I feel like the projection-scene didn't quite measure up to the image I'd had in my mind of it, but then again, I always did think that scene would be extremely hard to do justice. And it's not like it was bad either, I just seem to recall the VN hitting me even harder. At the end of it all this anime still managed to hit me right in the feels anyway, so I can't really complain...
...Well, except about the absence of this:

C'mon, david productions, this ending is supposed to be the most heart-wrenchingly tragic thing ever, why would you leave out the most heart-wrenchingly tragic soundtrack from the VN?!

So... has FUNi given any indication as to when this'll be coming out on BD?

The title of the source article seems to imply it heralds projection in the whole country, but no such thing is mentioned in the article itself. Perhaps there's such a chance if the response goes well at Koriyama.

I just saw the movie. Did not expect that it would be like 75% recap, but... it was like 75% recap. Honestly, in this case I don't even really see that much of a problem with this as unlike certain other recap movies I've seen this one actually works as a standalone piece, but... it kinda renders the web-series a complete waste of time, doesn't it? Like, the movie is literally the entire story (with a few minor cuts here and there but nothing that really harms the flow of the story) plus a continuation showing what ultimately became of our nameless protagonist after that, so... why even watch the series?

That said, it was a satisfying conclusion to the story. Nothing terribly unexpected about it since Japan does love to spoil the entire story in their trailers, but this has got to be a rare case of a sequel completely inverting the feel of the original ending that I actually liked. Way back in the day when I went through the VN, I was left with the impression that the guy never made it home and the entire world is thoroughly screwed anyway so who cares. With this epilogue, the whole thing feels a lot more hopeful... though I still feel like the entire world is thoroughly screwed.

Also I said it before when the single came out, but... damn that ending song is pretty.
