Spoiler for AMUDriver: Volume One:

The human subconscious has always been a pool of unlocked potential and power, something that magic has been able to outline and draw over and over- albeit in a rather imperfect form and manner. Many attempts to purely harness the subconscious had been made and the AMUDriver is the latest of such attempts.

Unlike most (failed) attempts and concepts at directly harnessing this "hidden potential", the project focused on the "locked potential" of the person's subconscious- the so-called "would-be self", as this was, according to a intellectual of name, was the easiest and most promising to bring out- not to mention vital to the overall concept of using the subconscious as well.

Most of the workings of this system was inspired from the multitiude of Kamen Rider and related projects that were active at that time. The concept of one user turning into others and using their abilities was one of the keys to be able to harness this “would-be self”. But from that point onwards a problem arose- how exactly does one bring out their “would-be self” from the depths of their minds?

Luckily, Medicine already had the answer to that stumbling block. Using sleep therapy, dream triggering and other related medical processes; psychologists and psychiatrists can peer into the person’s subconscious and find a way to diagnose their problems and as a result, the AMUDriver was originally intended as a medical tool to help those who have personality and emotional problems.

Following on that line, the next step was to give those “’extracted’ would-be selves” form and substance. The reason for this is that the user can benefit from them without actually turning into that “character” of theirs- as a sudden change may bring about bad outcomes, and also act as the guiding persona/e of the user- keeping him/her company to further enhance the effect and bring about more positive results-it is much better to talk to a person than just simply being ordered to.

But sometimes, in some situations, even the mere presence of these “characters” is not enough to bring change- so they needed a way to further benefit the user without turning into the character by activating their “characteristic” on the user- a process known as “Character Change”, a temporary event in which the characteristic part of the subconscious associated with that “character” is awakened, thus making the user perform in that character’s capability- sometimes termed by the user him/herself as “out of character”, as this is still a hidden attribute that the person still does not know of.

The AMUDriver was progressing smoothly as intended, but since it was inspired by a weapon project, certain groups began to see its value as a weapon, particularly in its utilization of the subconscious in a relatively new manner.

Spoiler for The Complication:

MC 0079, the day which the AMUDriver’s fate was turned end over end. Information pirates managed to copy most of the information relating to the project and within months, deviced a ‘twisted’ method based on AMUDriver’s principles was discovered by Bureau Operatives.

The emergence of these “X-Characters”, characters made from the subconscious’ negative feedback had the people working on the project in a panic- as these characters were making harm to the people that had them- only psychiatric mages were able to neutralize it w/o any damage to the person. It was only through the means of a resourceful supervisor that the people were calmed down and determined the redeem themselves, aligning themselves to the Bureau for help.

And with the arrival of Bureau Engineers, Scientists and Artificers did the AMUDriver begin its secondary path as a weapon. And since it was about “becoming one’s would-be self”, they christened the still unnamed (yes even from the beginning of its first path) project the “AMUDriver”, “AMU” Standing for Advanced Magical/Multi Unison and “Driver” the type of running device it was meant to be, a driver for the user.

Following on the unison device route, they first took a look at the process of Character Change or CC. They saw that while CC is highly beneficial, it was mostly temporary, thus not of any real use once the situation turned ugly. Thus they developed an improvement to CC, a unison process known as Becoming Character / Character Transformation or BC/CT. But they run into a problem, namely the “characters” that the Driver was able to produce- they were not suited for unison to the fact that they were initially made by civilian technology.

Thus their take on the “characters” was named the General Unison Accessory, Reactive Device and Integrated Autonomous Navigator, or GUARDIAN Character. the "GUA" defines what it can do- as a generalized accessory for unison, as opposed to pure unison devices like Reinforce II and Agito. The "RD" defines what kind of device it is- a subclass of intelligent devices called reactive devices. And finally, the "IAN" denoting the original function of the characters- an integrated yet autonomous "navigator" (to life).

These Guardian characters were made with a special magically harmonic substance called Orichalum, known in the ancient Velkan texts as the best substance to make unison devices from. Devices made from it are self sustaining, self regenerating and require little magic to sustain, but as a catch, anything made from it is linked to the creator in one of several manners- life force, and mental standing two of the major factors. Luckily, they were able to link only mental standing, because of the device's original function. But they made them susceptible to the same negative feedback that creates X-characters in the first place, as well as the mental willpower of the user- in short, if you reject or "throw" away your character, it will cross itself out and turn into an X-character and if you do not believe, they will simply cease to exist- possibly permanently.

After countless days and nights, they have managed to outline the base concepts- and run into another stumbling block.

Who will test this?

They had a rather large pool of hopefuls as it turns out- young people were at the age where they begin to set and discard expectations- a tumultuous period of the person's mental, emotional and psychological development- the perfect type of person to use the system- as some said. Young people and teens- magical or neutral, all over Ordered Space were suddenly eligible. It was through a simple essay assigned to all TSAB affiliated schools that they began the screening process to start selecting young people to see if they can use any of them. ranging from those whose desires were strong, to those who had a clear idea on what they wanted to become, they gathered young individuals to test the various mentalities the GUARDIANs could be created from.

But none showed as much promise as a young girl who wanted to be everything, and yet had no idea what she wanted to be.

Well, according to canon, making one may not be so hard.
The only problem is whether the UD will be able to unison with its master without going berserk

Unity-type Device
Also commonly known as a Unison Device. A device form developed only by Belka, it is a type of device that has taken the design idealogy of the Midchildan Intelligent Device to extremes. Devices possessing their own wills, and given complete human form and sentience, these devices can "unite" with users to provide Mana control and assistance according to circumstances. *These devices exceeds other forms greatly in response speed and in the volume of Mana handled; however users suitable for Unison are rare, and much work is required to fine-tune and ensure compatibility towards the disposition of each specific user. Furthermore, since by nature these devices can cause loss of conciousness and other effects during Unison, these devices have emergency countermeasures set that are independant of the host's awareness, allowing even solitary users to employ these devices on themselves, enhancing Mana usage. Unison Devices aren't linked to anything...in StrikerS both Rein and Agito were able to unison with other characters than their masters.
This goes especially to Agito, since Zest wasn't her master, he was simply borrowing her power.

Though, I think it was mentioned somewhere that Hayate used part of her own Linker Core to make Rein, hence why she has dreams of the original Reinforce's memories and inherits her final wish (all this happens in sound stage 3 I think).

But really...is there any need to add Orihalcum to UDs?

Well, Unison Devices don't have the properties of Guardian Charas in the AMUDriver profile afterall, so they did have to make their own suitable material for it. Although maybe it was too ambitious to try and integrate Unison Device history into the profile IN any case, better slug it out with SaintX himself

well, True UDs are created with just one part from the creator- the Linker Core.

Characters are linked to their creator/user because along with the LC, it is born from the mentality of the person.

and also trying to use the subconscious is a complicated thing- i don't want to complicate things further.

Unlike most (failed) attempts and concepts at directly harnessing this "hidden potential", the project focused on the "locked potential" of the person's subconscious- the so-called "would-be self", as this was, according to a intellectual of name, was the easiest and most promising to bring out- not to mention vital to the overall concept of using the subconscious as well.

Most of the workings of this system was inspired from the multitiude of Kamen Rider and related projects that were active at that time. The concept of one user turning into others and using their abilities was one of the keys to be able to harness this “would-be self”. But from that point onwards a problem arose- how exactly does one bring out their “would-be self” from the depths of their minds?

Luckily, Medicine already had the answer to that stumbling block. Using sleep therapy, dream triggering and other related medical processes; psychologists and psychiatrists can peer into the person’s subconscious and find a way to diagnose their problems and as a result, the AMUDriver was originally intended as a medical tool to help those who have personality and emotional problems.

Following on that line, the next step was to give those “’extracted’ would-be selves” form and substance. The reason for this is that the user can benefit from them without actually turning into that “character” of theirs- as a sudden change may bring about bad outcomes, and also act as the guiding persona/e of the user- keeping him/her company to further enhance the effect and bring about more positive results-it is much better to talk to a person than just simply being ordered to.

But sometimes, in some situations, even the mere presence of these “characters” is not enough to bring change- so they needed a way to further benefit the user without turning into the character by activating their “characteristic” on the user- a process known as “Character Change”, a temporary event in which the characteristic part of the subconscious associated with that “character” is awakened, thus making the user perform in that character’s capability- sometimes termed by the user him/herself as “out of character”, as this is still a hidden attribute that the person still does not know of.

The AMUDriver was progressing smoothly as intended, but since it was inspired by a weapon project, certain groups began to see its value as a weapon, particularly in its utilization of the subconscious in a relatively new manner.

MC 0079, the day which the AMUDriver’s fate was turned end over end. Information pirates managed to copy most of the information relating to the project and within months, deviced a ‘twisted’ method based on AMUDriver’s principles was discovered by Bureau Operatives.

The emergence of these “X-Characters”, characters made from the subconscious’ negative feedback had the people working on the project in a panic- as these characters were making harm to the people that had them- only psychiatric mages were able to neutralize it w/o any damage to the person. It was only through the means of a resourceful supervisor that the people were calmed down and determined the redeem themselves, aligning themselves to the Bureau for help.

And with the arrival of Bureau Engineers, Scientists and Artificers did the AMUDriver begin its secondary path as a weapon. And since it was about “becoming one’s would-be self”, they christened the still unnamed (yes even from the beginning of its first path) project the “AMUDriver”, “AMU” Standing for Advanced Magical/Multi Unison and “Driver” the type of running device it was meant to be, a driver for the user.

Following on the unison device route, they first took a look at the process of Character Change or CC. They saw that while CC is highly beneficial, it was mostly temporary, thus not of any real use once the situation turned ugly. Thus they developed an improvement to CC, a unison process known as Becoming Character / Character Transformation or BC/CT. But they run into a problem, namely the “characters” that the Driver was able to produce- they were not suited for unison to the fact that they were initially made by civilian technology.

Thus their take on the “characters” was named the General Unison Accessory, Reactive Device and Integrated Autonomous Navigator, or GUARDIAN Character. the "GUA" defines what it can do- as a generalized accessory for unison, as opposed to pure unison devices like Reinforce II and Agito. The "RD" defines what kind of device it is- a subclass of intelligent devices called reactive devices. And finally, the "IAN" denoting the original function of the characters- an integrated yet autonomous "navigator" (to life).

These Guardian characters were made with a special magically harmonic substance called Orichalum, known in the ancient Velkan texts as the best substance to make unison devices from. Devices made from it are self sustaining, self regenerating and require little magic to sustain, but as a catch, anything made from it is linked to the creator in one of several manners- life force, and mental standing two of the major factors. Luckily, they were able to link only mental standing, because of the device's original function. But they made them susceptible to the same negative feedback that creates X-characters in the first place, as well as the mental willpower of the user- in short, if you reject or "throw" away your character, it will cross itself out and turn into an X-character and if you do not believe, they will simply cease to exist- possibly permanently.

After countless days and nights, they have managed to outline the base concepts- and run into another stumbling block.

Who will test this?

They had a rather large pool of hopefuls as it turns out- young people were at the age where they begin to set and discard expectations- a tumultuous period of the person's mental, emotional and psychological development- the perfect type of person to use the system- as some said. Young people and teens- magical or neutral, all over Ordered Space were suddenly eligible. It was through a simple essay assigned to all TSAB affiliated schools that they began the screening process to start selecting young people to see if they can use any of them. ranging from those whose desires were strong, to those who had a clear idea on what they wanted to become, they gathered young individuals to test the various mentalities the GUARDIANs could be created from.

But none showed as much promise as a young girl who wanted to be everything, and yet had no idea what she wanted to be.

Well... I can see the concern that others raise. You see, the 'Unison Devices are best made out of Orichalum' bit is little more than a side mention in the idea. It's more focused on the GUARDIAN Devices, but has little influence on Unison Devices other than stating the best of them are made from Orichalum.

So its not so much that you claim they are made from it, but rather that you don't do anything with it. Remove the 'known in the ancient Velkan texts as the best substance to make unison devices from.' and nothing changes.

Though really, I myself don't mind theorycrafting on how Unison Devices are made. Until canon gives us accurate info, why shouldn't we? That's what this thread is for, after all. I do, however, want to ask you if you are planning something with this? Are you planning something with the 'best material for Unison Devices' or is it just a statement to show how awesome GUARDIAN Devices are?
