Episode 8 was excellent, all those intense feelings flowing around probably made it the best episode yet.

Looks like our favorite couple just found out the wonders of actual physical contact, not just sharing sensations through Urabe's drool. I wonder how many Urabe fans wanted to grab their pitchforks and torches and yelled, AKIRA TSUBAKI, TONIGHT WE SHALL FEAST ON YOUR CORPSE FOR MAKING OUR MAIDEN CRY!@/\/\/\/\@

Of course not. He's voiced by Kaji Yuuki.

That might be the best depiction of "first contact" I've seen since Kare Kano. And this series is like FLCL's big brother - it's Naota's head-on collision with puberty four years later.

Quite an intense episode. Tsubaki might do a lot of idiotic things, but I do have to commend him this episode. I can understand how hard it is, especially at that young age, to control his desires once he reaches a certain point where his brain turns off. He initially went too far, but stopped before doing real permanent damage. It is very commendable.

Due to the nature of the manga release I've mostly forgotten the events of the earlier chapters. It's kind of nice to get reminded why I've been following this manga. This is a really good episode.

Anyone else kind of wished they'd animated the drool differently? The yellowish phlegm look kind of grosses me out, lol.

From the preview at the end of the episode, next week's helping will be based on one of my favorite manga chapters, and we get to see yet another very cute side of Urabe.

Having watched the subbed version, I now know of another inconsistency in the adaptation versus the manga. Supposedly, in this episode, it is Tsubaki's first visit to Urabe's apartment. However, this portion of the episode, based on chapter 20 of the manga, belies the fact that he had already visited her apartment way back in chapter 6 of the manga, during the "Mysterious Summer Vacation." So, can we assume that they aren't going to animate chapter 6? Probably. It's a shame since chapter 6 was pretty funny, particularly the end result of Tsubaki's visit where Urabe had to go buy some pyjamas because she couldn't sleep in the nude anymore.

Another change I forgot to mention in my first post about this episode is that, instead of a thunderstorm and Urabe's tripping over the cup of coffee, there was an earthquake which caused her to end up in Tsubaki's lap. There was no mention of a thunderstorm at all. I would have preferred to see the earthquake animated, since they are doing such a spectacular job with every other scene, that would have been much more exciting than the run of the mill thunderstorm we got instead.

Nonetheless, these changes still don't change my opinion of the episode. It still rates a 10 in my book.

Not me. I'm perfectly fine with it. But I've read the manga and, although it is thicker than the manga version, I think that's probably mostly due to the difference in the media. The yellowish hue seen in this episode is actually a pretty realistic depiction of the reflection of the evening sunlight.

Best episode yet. I was afraid it might go Makoto for a minute there. Loved the way Tsubaki manned up and was honest with her. And I'm digging the new hairstyle!

Anyway, half-jokes aside, I really liked the episode, since it depicted perfectly how confusing these situations are for kids, and unfortunately a lot adults

Oka's reaction when she tasted Urabe's drool was about the same as my thoughts about this episode. It is so sweet both figuratively and literally. It was a near perfect image about how adolescents would react during puberty, and I am glad Tsubaki stopped before things get worse, since most males may not have been able to control themselves at that point.

Ah, I hadn't thought of that, being from an area of the US where a meteorite falling on a house is more likely than experiencing an earthquake. But you're probably right, it was most likely an directorial decision aimed an curbing the potential negative response if it had been animated as an earthquake.

I don't get the Makoto reference, but I do agree that this episode surpassed all previous episodes, not only in overall enjoyment, but also as an adpatation of the source material. This one episode packed way more punch than the three respective manga chapters.

For instance, Tsubaki "manning up" felt much more realistic in the anime, and, in comparison to reading the manga, I hadn't realized what a nice, considerate guy he really is, even though the words spoken were pretty much right there in the manga. The episode really brought the manga to life.

And, yes, the new hairstyle! I'm already impatiently waiting for the next episode.

Just the mention of Oka's reaction puts a huge smile on my face!

Not only that most males might not have been able to stop, but most males probably wouldn't have been bothered at all by seeing the girl cry, and would just have continued to do whatever they wanted to. I gotta hand it to Tsubaki; even though his mind must have been completely blank, as mine would have been in that situation, his conscience was able to kick in when he saw the tears in Urabe's eyes, and he was able to stop himself from going any further.
