Ironic Twist of Fate Leaves Angel Beats Creator in Need of Heart Transplant

Quote:
Life could not be more ironic for Jun Maeda, creator of Angel Beats. Jun Maeda was recently diagnosed with a failing heart and is in need of a transplant, which he announced on Twitter.

The news comes months after he was admitted to a hospital. He has reported that he's suffering from idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. The condition has had an impact on Maeda, who says in his Twitter how he does not wish to undergo surgery.

The irony lies in that the main character of Angel Beats Yuzuru Otonashi finds himself stuck in a collapsed train tunnel after a trainwreck. He is fatally injured from the accident and just before he passes away, signs an organ donor card.
Talk about a cruel ironic twist of fate .

So will there be one last Maeda based story on his own condition? There will be crying.

As people say about this incident: 'It's no wonder his heart is failing after he wrote all those heart tearing stories.'

But it's not all bad, from what I have read he still have years to live even with decaying heart.

I have to admit that I also had that thought in my mind the second I read the news. I wonder if that makes me a bad person?

Speaking of donor organs, how long do they last in a person's body and why does the body reject it even though they have the same blood type?

It's not just the blood type that flags it as an foreign object. Can't recall the specifics off the top of my head, but in simplified terms, each cell has a "coating" of receptors that your immune system checks to see if it has the same "code" as your own cells. If the code does not match, your immune system will declare war on it and attempt to destroy it. Simple-minded terminators that they are.

That's why most successful donors tend to be from direct family members, as their "body code" will be very similar to yours. This is also why donor recipients undergo a lot of immune-system-suppression therapy after receiving a donated implant.

Cheers.

Graft vs Host or vice versa. Usually it's from cytotoxicity because strictly speaking unless it's an autologous transplant, your immune system will recognize any non-self antigen and attack the thing bearing it

Like for example with lung transplants usually it buys 5 years before the transplant starts to wear down from the body's own immune response and another new transplant is needed

Regardless of how similar the donor and recipient's MHC (HLA) receptor molecules are, ultimately, as long as there are foreign antigens being exposed to the recipient's immune system, transplant rejection will eventually happen.

Hence why the ability to grow human clone organs in the lab is one of the current targets of science. Not only will they be fully accepted by the body, you also don't need to wait for someone else to die either.

I know they've done it with pig hearts, so it can't be too far away, hopefully close enough for Maeda to benefit from it.

^Hopefully the ability to clone human organs might become a reality in a year or two.

Organs? Still long way away....Even stem cells aren't fully mature therapy yet. It's not as simple as just grafting stem cells into an organ and pray they integrate. You need to ensure cellular differentiation occurs in a finely guided enough manner especially in something like the heart. You don't want say....electro-conductive pacemaker cells appearing where they shouldn't. And specifically in cardiology, we have barely even fully understood the cardiomyocyte development process beyond the early stages. After all that is kind of like right now the big goal in the field

Trump rescued from stalled elevator by firefighters...

Quote:

Donald Trump and members of his Secret Service detail were briefly trapped in an elevator Friday before a campaign rally in Colorado Springs.

They were rescued by firefighters with the Colorado Springs Fire Department, which lowered a ladder into the elevator, allowing Trump and his entourage to climb out.

Trump eventually took the stage at the rally, where he opened his remarks by blasting the local fire marshal for shutting off entry to his campaign event due to capacity restrictions.

"This is why our country doesn't work," Trump said as he slammed the Colorado Springs fire marshal during the rally, moments after the department's firefighters rescued him. The paper reported that Trump said the fire marshal "didn't know what he was doing and 'was probably a Democrat.' "
....then proceeds to shit on them afterwards.
