It looks like Saber recognized that Shirou is related to Kiri? Was that in the original VN or was it added as a nod to F/Z?

In the VN Saber manages to not show her surprise, but she surely realizes that there is a connection alone from the fact that

Damn, watching the OP in Ep1 reminded me that Kojiro was a thing in UBW. Now I am actively looking forward to seeing him get some limelight.

...too bad I'm going to have to wait almost 6 months to see it. I hope it at least doesn't get glossed over thanks to...the most important fight in the route happening simultaneously.

Gae Bolg is the best thing to happen.

Gae Bolg is enhanced by ufotable's fanboying here (just like KnK 1). Reverse cause and effect causality shown by time rewinding, etc. Gae Bolg is fashioned from a sea monster so Saber getting hit and reeled and thrown is similar to a fisherman reeling/ throwing into the land his catch of fish.

Sasuga ufotable. ufotable is love ufotable is life

Now is it safe to speculate here how ufotable will possibly enhance/show how the other Noble Phantasms would work/activate?

I have a mixed feelings of ufotable making Sakura that much "moe". I don't think she was much bouncing around like that even in the novel, it might clash with her overall image in HF. I know this is UBW where she has like no important role but still...

Yes, it is. It happened in the novel too, but because of no visuals, the foreshadowing was less obvious.

Showing Shirou grasping the pendant Rin used to save his life so clearly is a pretty risky move by Ufotable. The viewers should already know from episode 0 that Archer gave the pendant back to Rin.

I would have liked if Ufotable had only showed Shirou from a distance or something when her took the pendant. Hopefully nobody has realized this impossibility.

I have seen at least one person in the comments of the Random Curiosity blog noticing it.

She is still more pragmatic than FZ Saber (not caring about chivalry as much anymore), she just doesn't go around acting like an emotionless robot.

The same thing happened in the VN. True, it was less noticeable there due to the VN format, but if you paid attention it was impossible to miss.

In any case, UBW had a dozen hints about Archer's true identity so that's not so much of a surprise... and worst is, all those hints are bound to be more prominent in the Anime format so to keep it a secret, Ufotable would have needed to alter many scenes into "Don't show what is exactly there!" and cut some others.

If I remember correctly the UBW story, after ep 1 Sakura won't appear anymore. She will get mentioned by Shinji at some point, but that's it. The stage is now for Shirou, Rin, Saber and Archer.
