Airfield Hime sure was resilient. They had to deplete the gauge first I guess.

Mutsu going strong after Nagato.

Kisaragi's hair decoration showing up in the end.

Finally a abyssal got a voicing line and she even evolved to Midway Princess

I have a lot of mixed feelings with this episode

Spoiler for Episode 12:

-The fight is a tad too dragged... that's because the pacing was a bit all over the place with way too many dialogues forcefully inserted in there.
The directing was also very confusing, with lots of transitions to different characters to the point it was difficult to keep track of who is attacking and what's left with the enemy task force.

-Taihou's screentime was, as expected, very limited so her own presence and the admiral "survival" are simply... there.

-Hinting that Wo-kai is actually Kisaragi is a bit... well...

-At least we got some "characterization" for the princess who got a "promotion"

And it looks like we will have a second season or a movie.

In this regard I was quite amused by the Kitakami / Ōi scene. Talking half a while when they are surrounded by Abyssals. Looked fairly surreal.

^ this scene made me cringe because not only they did it again, but it was so frigging long that it affected the momentum there. That and some major OOC scene imho.

I really felt like starting to laugh with how out of place it seemed.

All in all the pacing of the battle was off with lots of breaks in order to get dialogues in, some of them unneeded, like the one referred to above. Anyway, with yet another Kitakami / Ōi scene they've gotten a scene in like every episode, making me feel like they are the secret main characters of this anime. Somebody must've really liked them

about the hint of kisaragi morphing into an abyssal it actualy doesn't surprise me at all, actualy all along since she was sunk i thought the final boss would be her, i don't know if it happen in the game but it actualy happen in a lot of kancolle DJ that a sunk fleetgirl become an abyssal or WORSE

That last episode did feel like they rushed things a bit. Especially, the Taihou bit. Have her randomly appear in one episode and then suddenly she's on the battlefield the next. I did get a laugh out of Ooi dynamic entry that destroyer.

Well, at least Kitakami did not die, though I was surprised at how cleanly she escaped.

But then, I was surprised, even considering this anime had not been retaining sync with its previous episodes that they had the temerity to delete the fact they had already dropped the bomb on Akagi last episode.

At least Nagato, or someone, made the correct basic decision to bring more people this episode and that's the only factor that raised my vote from a 1 to a 3... otherwise it took 50 minutes to watch this 20 minute episode - I had to pause and purge my brain several times.

Watching again, here are the issues I have in general with this episode

Spoiler:

-Fubuki saving the day was quite obvious from the get go but... the fire director was pretty much ignored, making her actual "usefulness" down to the drain.

-As already stated: there is way too much talk, and it is already the case right when Fubuki asks Akagi to run away.
The prime scene for that issue was the very moment the princess morphed into her "other form" which lasted a little more than 1 full minute. The fight only resumed after the princess launched her planes despite the abyssals came back en masse.
Likewise, the arrival of the reinforcements was really tedious.

-Major quality mishaps (Kirishima cannons and the sky at the end of the episode).
Meanwhile, we had a lot of recycled stock shot, particularly Kongou.

-Ooi/Kitakami scene was not only completely random, but way too longwinded (1:45... really?). Frankly, seeing their antics every week is very tiring considering it is absurdely repetitive. That and Kitakami was really OOC in there.

-Yamato has far more range than any other non CV kanmusu, and even so, she is before them when firing.

-Yamato is damaged by Abyssals destroyers torpedoes and... we see them launching their torpedoes AFTERWARDS. Of course, after that cut, no more torpedo reached her. They basically SWAPPED the cuts order.

-We keep seeing shells impacts behind the Kanmusu, but we really see close to no actual damage taken during the fight in this episode. It sounds as if they became completely apt to dodge everything in the second half of the fight... which is nonsense since most of them barely move.

-There is no damn reason why "Henderson" suddenly became Midway princess.

-The wo class was sunk... offscreen?

-Having "power of friendship" working in the end is nice and dandy but... I think it would be much better without being so obvious with the yuri stuff.

Missing points:
-There is no explanation why Yamato's fleet was so late, which is silly since she herself told Fubuki she will explain that later.
-Wo = Kisaragi being completely unaddressed.
-Where and what was the admiral doing during all this time?
-We have no aftermath regarding the capture of Mi island.
-What about MO island?
-Taihou involvement was pretty much... minute worth.

What bothered me about this episode was the mood (together with constant break of mood) and lack of answers.

Spoiler for ep 12:

I was expecting it to end with everything well, but wished the mood have been heavier thorough the episode. Way too many scenes that were jokes or the characters happily talking while the abyssal waited.

And regarding questions, the major one was about the admiral. I don't mind Kisaragi one as much as that could be explained on the follow up, but don't see any reason why the admiral one shouldn't have been explained now.

And regarding Kisaragi, rather than her being the Wo, when Fubuki heard something there have been kind of a shadow on the water (a sub maybe?). Maybe she will turn into an abyssal now and will appear on the continuation?

Wait a moment, where was it implied that the Wo was Kisaragi? Yea, the Wo got sunk offscreen, but for all we know, it just took forever for the hair clip to rise to the surface?

When the Wo-kai was sinking, you can hear a 返して (give it back!). Later on, at the very same spot, Kisaragi's hair pin emerged.
