My message to Del Toro:

Use this "free time" to work on and finish your other projects (Hellboy 3, Monster, Justice League Dark anyone?) and also to perfect the script for PR2 coz many of the dialogues and scenes of the main characters in PR1 are bad or absolutely cheesy to the point of embarrassing, which is a detriment to the awesomeness of the movie. Too bad, but put on more work in the future.

I'm pretty sure cheesiness is a selling point for the movie.

Not when you have a ton of people (both critics and audience/fans alike) complaining “The battles are epic, but the dialogues and characters interactions (especially the MCs) are bad and cheesy as hell.” or something along those lines. And I have the same problem as them with PR. Smarter writing would've helped the movie, a lot.

Look, I want Pacific Rim to be successful too (coz I love giant robots), but I'm not gonna be an apologist for the movie's faults when I can clearly see it as it is obvious.

it also doesn't help that the MC is as generic as hell. 5 mins after the movie i can't even remember what he look like. I know the Giant Robots are the actual MC but still couldn't the director found somebody for the human MC that wasn't that generic looking?

What he said, the movie was cheezzzzzeeeee like none before it i even thought the acting sucked but that could also be because they had bad scripts . BuT the giant mech fights were awesome.

Requiescat in Pace, Pacific Rim 2.

Another factor that could impact Pacific Rim 2 plans is the imminent acquisition of Legendary by Wanda, the Chinese conglomerate. Pacific Rim did more business in China than anywhere else in the world, including the U.S., and it could spur on the development of the follow-up.
And Legendary's going to be acquired by Wanda? Oh f***.

Literally because "Pacific Rim did more business in China than anywhere else in the world, including the U.S., and it could spur on the development of the follow-up."

There is a restriction in the number of foreign films allowed to screen in China on a yearly basis. This quota means if you want to sell your film in China, it is best if you have some actual interaction with the Chinese film community if not have actual Chinese locations and actors who are Chinese. Doing that makes the film more likely to be selected in the quota.

When America forks over the money, films pander to it and America Saves The World. Why would it be different when the money comes from China?

Pacific Rim 2 not yet CANCELLED according to Guillermo Del Toro
I guess I'm not gonna believe any news of cancellation unless it's been said by the maestro himself. Now the big question is: when will the sequel happen?

I like it. It's also great decision to pull in new movie goers.
Edit:
Oh, wait, he's also co-producing it.
