It's just plain cruel. We know that that sort of thing will never happen, (though I'd actually really like to see them getting along), so it's plain unnecessary. I'm sure Urobuchi has deconstructed magical girls enough already.

Kyouko and Sayaka in the large Tea Cup Fair-Ride was just lolzy to the extreme. Should be very pleasing for fans of that pairing though, lol.

Hmmm, it would be interesting if we'll ever see the Homura we saw at the end of the series who once wielded the bow and arrow, and somehow meet herself in this timeline to kill her assumed "satan" self Looper style. =p I mean you can't just ignore that version.

Madoka stops witches no matter how powerful they are. It's really not about power, actually. If it was possible for a witch to be born, then it means that something else is tampering with Madoka's wish, in which case Homura's fight wouldn't be in vain.

Anyway, I've seen all the trailers, and this world the movie takes place in is so weird and twisted that I can understand why Homura is fighting so hard against it. This is not reality, or at least not reality as it should be. Something's wrong with it, and someone has to fix it.

What if those shots are from the beginning of the movie, and Homura still hasn't realized she's inside the "Matrix"? Let's say that in this world Puella Magi are like Precures and Sailor Senshi. They fight evil but they don't have to worry about becoming witches or disappearing if they run out of magic. It's a perfect world were all the girls are alive and everyone is friendly with Homura. Then Nagisa appears and Homura starts to realize that there's something wrong with this world, that Sayaka should be dead, that Madoka couldn't possible exist.

Nagisa is a normal little girl that was saved by Mami, Kyouko, and Homura. She overhears Mami and Kyouko lamenting the death of Sayaka.

Kyouko then says "Why can't we 'magical girls' in the real world have it as simple as the magical girls in TV shows, huh? None of the good girls ever dies in those! Everybody is happy, everybody wins over evil constantly."

Mami says "It would be nice..."

Nagisa then wishes "I want the people who saved me, and all of their friends - Even the dead ones! - to enjoy an ideal magical girl life just like in TV shows!"

Kyubey (after watching "Beauty Cure" to fully grasp the wish ) then says "Granted!"

And... Boom! Madoka Magica turns into PreCure. Sayaka and Madoka return as high school magical girls. Mami, as the veteran, becomes like the Red Ranger-esque leader of the group (even though she's "Yellow" )

For Nagisa's wish to work, Homura loses her memories and turns back into "Moemura". For a significant chunk of the movie we're treated to the Madoka girls living the ideal life of conventional magical girls.

Everybody's favorite witches return, but are now easily curbstomped by the five main Puella Magi, and their soul gems never corrupt. We see the five Puella Magi go around destroying witches easily.

Things are going great, until Madoka expresses some sympathy for the witches.

"I know that they're monsters and all, but it's sad that we can only kill them. I wish there was a way to save them..."

And then Moemura starts having flashbacks coming back into her mind. She realizes that this world isn't the way Madoka had wished for it to be.

Madoka, Mami, Sayaka, Kyouko, and Moemura are all benefiting a lot from Nagisa's wish, but at the expense of the witches. Witches are still born out of other magical girls, it's just that Nagisa's wish has sort of immunized the five main Puella Magi. Moemura realizes that this is not how Madoka would want it. So she fights to restore Madoka-world. As a visual representation of Moemura's change, she unbraids her hair and dispenses with the glasses again, once more becoming Homura. Another visual representation of the narrative changing gears will be the visuals going from very bright to significantly darker.

Now, of all five of the main magical girls, the ones that I can most see having a total blast as conventional magical girls, are Mami and Sayaka. So they're the ones who have the most negative response to Homura's revelation, and request to "fix the world".

Mami and Sayaka went to preserve the idyllic heroic lifestyle that Nagisa has granted them, which is understandable. Mami may feel additional responsibility due to being the veteran leader of the group.

So this paves the way to the Mami vs. Homura, and Sayaka vs. Homura, fights. Later on, Homura attempts suicide since she theorizes that this would undo Nagisa's wish, thus restoring the world to the way Madoka wished for it to be.

Ultimately, Homura succeeds, after a climatic struggle with Mami. Homura awakes to the world as Madoka intended it. Madoka hugs Homura from behind and expresses thanks to Homura for restoring that world. Mami, Sayaka, and Kyouko make peace with the fact that their PreCure-esque lives were not how things were meant to be, and the five main Puella Magi fade away in the beautiful sunrise as Nagisa's wish has now been undone, with Madoka specifically being restored to her ascended role. The story closes on the main five Puella Magi, but leaves things wide open for future Puella Magi stories involving different casts.

On the positive side, fans finally get a nice taste of what Madoka Magica would be like as a conventional magical girl show. Madoka/Homura and Sayaka/Kyouko shippers are likely thrown some juicy bones.

But yes, it would probably divide the fandom. Many will be inclined to think that Homura made the wrong decision, and that it would have been better to just let the five main girls keep enjoying their PreCure-esque existence.


Edit: As a dark twist to this, Nagisa's wish does not immunize her either. Nagisa ends up becoming Charlotte. And this time, Charlotte gets killed without Mami dying. The little doll that looks like the smaller version of Charlotte was based on a real doll that belonged to Nagisa. Mami keeps that doll for sentimental reasons following Nagisa's death. Everybody noticing that Nagisa is now missing and/or dead probably feeds into Homura making key realizations, and conflicts arising out of it.

Okay, I got legit spoilers I think (seems to be confirmed by photos from the theater screen, though you never know!!!!!!)

Spoiler for the rebellion story:

So, at some point, Homura reachs the point of no return and her soul gem is about to be collected by Madoka. QB uses some shady alien tech to stop this, but he inadvertently traps Madokami inside Homura's soul gem in the process.

So, the movie takes place inside a barrier. Homura fights because, in order to break the barrier and free Madoka she needs to create suffering (this is really screwed up).

Homura is about to succeed but she begins to turn into a witch.

Anyway, the other girls + Nagisa fight witch Homura. They defeat her and the barrier finally breaks as Homura planned.

We're back in the real world and the world resets, Madoka is restored as God and Homura is about to die. This is the epilogue, and when things begin to turn really really weird:


Madoka appears to purify Homura, but Homura tells her to stop as she reaches out to the soul gem. Homu grabs Madoka's hand, the soul gem blackens, the planet blackens, the universe blackens. Homu crush the soul gem by biting it, creating a new object. QB asks her what she is doing. Homu tells him that this is what he will never understand, love.

Homura now is neither witch nor magical girl. Then there's a scene where it seems that Homura destroys QB, like for good.

The scene changes:

Sayaka becomes Mermaid Witch (the world has reset, remember). Homura makes the witch disappears with a clap, she states that she is greater than God.

Homura vanishes.

The scene changes:

Madoka is a Japanese returning from USA. The entire story is inversed, Madoka is the transfer student now. Homura (she's god) takes Madoka to the infirmary. Madoka feels wrong midway and starts turning into God Madoka. Homu reversed it by hugging her (with her own god powers Homu is suppressing Madoka's god powers). Homu is using her design at the end of the TV series throughout this scene. Homu returns the ribbon to Madoka, says it fits well.

Homu asks Madoka which is more important: The state of the world or someone's happiness? Madoka feels that being selfish is wrong. Homu then tells Madoka that they will become enemies one day. Madoka is shocked. END.

Notes: It seems Homura with bow and wings fighting for Madoka's world was retconned, or happened way before the time this movie takes place. Probably the latter. Also, it's not clear if Dark God Homura is collecting soul gems like Madoka was doing before. I think she does but it's unclear from the shit spoilers I read.

Pretty fucked up, especially the last part. It not only feels weird but also pretty unnecessary.
