I’m a bit confused. I thought this was going to be a series based off the two dark nebula movies from original Yamato, but it says “first part” and “later part” on the promotional material. Is this just a two-part OVA/mini series?
Just two "films"/OVAs. Eight episodes. Four per "film"
And it seems to be only based on New Voyage...the first of the Dark Nebula movies. Well that and parts of the Yamato III series.
If it does well, perhaps we will get more.
(Part One was very good)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TKelviuoNE i wish that theme got remake whenever the Goruba been orbiting Iscandar and Dessler order his forces to attack in a futile gesture when he tried to fire the Dessler Cannon on the Goruba.
Did anyone watch Yamato 2205 here? If yes please gives us story summary.
I could try but due to a lack of subtitles and understanding Japanese, I could easily misinterpret scenes. I know there are things were I don't know the details because it was discussed more than shown...or the showing didn't impart enough information to give specifics.
So these are rather rough. (and I am tired....might fix spelling mistakes later)
Spoiler for Yamato 2205 Episode One:
Episode One:
We begin with Dessler attempting to convince the Bolar Federation to allow his people to move to planet Galman. He appears to be in some sort of temple or church to some goddess. A bunch of Galmans are there kneeling. It is a suitable world to replace the dying Gamilas. He even goes so far as to bend the knee to the Bolar. But they throw a slave collar to him and declare that Gamilas and Galmans should be slaves under Bolar rule. Dessler doesn't take kindly to this and stands up. The Bolar believe he can't do anything as they have his flagship and his fleet is a respectful distance away. A young Galman starts to pull a knife but is stopped by an elder, just in time for Dessler to start counting down aloud in Gamilan to zero....when his flagship explodes with what looks like a wave motion implosion...disabling the Bolar fleet for a moment.
This allows the new Deusura III to SMITE in a bunch of torpedo bombers that start working the Bolar fleet over...distracting them enough for Dessler's fleet, with Burger leading the charge, to start blasting Bolar ships in orbit. The Galman garrison ships start to go active, when a hail of torpedoes rain down on them from nearby. Frakken's submarines are lurking under the ice.
The Bolar delegation are about to shoot Dessler for this trick when shots take out the guards and one of the officials...Dessler has a few of his Imperial Guard in the crowd of Galmans. The head official attempts to set of the slave collars, but Dessler shoots him in the shoulder. Dessler makes a declaration to the Galmans present and gains a new following. The remaining Bolar are shipped off in their flagship carrier while surrounded by Gamilas warships.
Dessler, now aboard the Deurura III (his new flagship) with Talan, inform the fleet that Admiral Dietz, and his large battleship will station a fleet at Galman to keep the planet safe for immigration. Dessler's fleet heads back to Gamilas. Views of recording of Keyman (from Yamato 2202) and Captain Kodai.
Scene shifts to the end of Yamato 2202. Yamato returns from Teresa's dimension in a shower of golden light. The people of Earth chanting "Yamato! Yamato! Yamato!" Meanwhile on Earth, we see a young man cradling a dead man at a car crash. He looks up with spite at the new star in the sky and curses...."Yamato". It is Decemeber 31st, 2203...the day Yamato returned home. Time passes at the year goes to 2205.
In 2205, we see two new carriers and a patrol cruiser at a harbor. Some cadets are rowing boats as a drill under the eye of their instructors (older crew members from Yamato). On the carrier Hyuga, Commander Todo consults new captains Sanada and Mori about there assignment to be escorts for Yamato.
On deck the cadets are dismissed but a fight breaks out between Bando and some other cadets. Probably about being assigned to Yamato. The fight is broken up by Yamato's Security Chief Hosina and the senior officers of Yamato, Hyuga, and the carrier Asuka. Hosina notices the young man from the scene with the car crash nearly observing the fight, but the young man leaves, Hosina is curious about this. But asks Shima where Captain Kodai is.
Kodai is at Hero's Hill consulting his own soul and Captain Okita's statue. His fiancee, Captain Mori Yuki arrives to console him a little as well. Late at night while talking they are interrupted by a voice asking (maybe accusing) Kodai something. This is that young man again...he runs off before being confronted by Kodai and Yuki.
Near the Moon, a Gamilas destroyer comes out of warp. Yabu, former Yamato crew, mutineer, and later Gamilas submariner, is onboard. He spots a ship near the Moon. At first he things it is Yamato, but than recognizes it as Ginga. He is transferred over to Ginga with a package for Earth. He however is not to stay on Ginga. He will be moved to Yamato once it launches for its mission. Yubu is a little taken back by this, since its been a long time since he was on Yamato. While in his temporary quarters he pulls out a small hologram of himself, a woman, and three children. Yabu has had a Zalti family on Gamilas in the time he's been away from Earth.
We cut to Gamilas. The evacuation has started. Yabu's family is in line for a transport off Gamilas. Hiss is discussing Gamilas fate with other officials while his semi-adopted daughter Hilde (the late Pluto Base commander Schultz's daughter) looks towards Iscandar. There Melda Dietz confers with Starsha and Yurisha about the Gamilas move to Galman.
Back in Earth, its graduation day. The cadets head off to their new ships. One Yamato, Security Chief Hosina is being yelled at over the phone by his wife Yuria when he makes an unconforatable discovery about the strange young man his saw earlier. This is Domon Ryusuke (tactical officer/red stripes on white uniform). Top of the class, and something in his record raises serious red flags for Hosina, who informs Captain Sanada, as Domon and the cadets head for Yamato. Domon has gun in his holster that he grabs a little when he see's Yamato.
(end of episode one)
Spoiler for Yamato 2205: Episode Two:
Starts off with a flashback to Iscandar and Gamilas a few decades ago. Dessler's Uncle and the nobles arrive on Iscandar to inform Starsha about the plight of planet Gamilas. Young Dessler is with them. Starsha (who looks the same as she does in the present) spots Dessler looking up from the groups kneeling before Starsha. She walks over to hime, kneels down with him and whispers something in his ear.
Present Day. Dessler gets pulled from his memories by Talon informing him they are passing one of the first Immigration Fleets, which send congratulations to Dessler at securing Galman for them via signal lights. Dessler has Talon signal back as Desser's Fleet continues towards Gamilas.
On Earth, Yamato, Hyuga, and Asuka are ready for their training cruise. The brass gives a speech for the assembled cadets on Yamato's Deck. The scene cuts with Hosina and Sanafa informing Kodai and Task Force 65 Commander Yamanami about Domon and trying to get Kodai to do something about it. Kodai seems unmoved. At the assembly, Domon, the top of his class reads to the brass for the class, and salutes. He and Kodai have a brief stare before Domon turns back to get into formation....But Kodai stops him. Ordering that the crews prepare for lift off at once and the Domon will be in charge of take off on Yamato.
After mild confusion, Domon is escorted to the bridge by security and given the helm. Shima sits next to him, just in case. Also tells him to relax a little on take off. The three ships start to move for take off. Tokogawa's son Tasuke is in engineering as a cadet. He gets distracted during the start up sequence and stalls Yamato's engines, leaving it behind the two carriers for a short bit. As Yamato gets back up to speed Domon has been following procedures correctly, right up until Kodai orders the ship to launch. Hyuga and Asuka take off ahead of Yamato as an island looms ahead of Yamato. Domon seems to be having a moment remembering his father's death in the car crash. Shima stands up, ready to take over, than suddenly Domon pulls back the controls and Yamato lifts off, just clearing the tree tops of the island.
A montage of people watching Yamato leave Earth is shown to the sounds of Isao Sasaki singing "Remember Yamato".
After this Kodai gets chewed out by the brass after finding out whatever is on Domon's record that sends the red flags. Kodai is ordered to have Domon removed from his post. Around this time Yabu is sent over to Yamato from Ginga. The shuttle sent with Yabu would take Domon off Yamato, but Kodai has other ideas. He gets the head Quartermaster,Hirata, to intercept the transfere of Domon, who is in cuffs at this point, and offers him a chance to stay on Yamato, in the mess staff. Domon agrees, and is released to Hirata's care. Yabu has arrived and witnessed this, but is given a cold shoulder by Hoshina (who was the one to route out the mutany). Niimi arrives and greets Yabu, as she is there to set him up with a lab so Earth can inspect whatever it is Yabu brought to Yamato.
Yamato leaves Ginga behind and starts several weeks of intense training. First fighter combat near the debris around the Moon (They are working to repair the Moon, but it will take a while. Yamamoto is in charge of Yamato's air group while Shinohara is in charge of Hyuga's air group. We get introduced to Sakamoto, the new hot shot pilot. Next is the Marines doing a drop onto Titan in the remains of Saturn. We are introduced to Marine Caroline Raiden. Next we get mock combat and repair drills in a debris field of Gatlantis battleships. The combat is between Yamato and her two escorts. Asuka deployed its new barrier missiles which cover a wide area and easily deflect Yamato's shock cannons. Domon is serving food during these drills and encounters Yabu in the lab studying what looks like a Wave Motion Core. Domon seems distracted by this until Yabu speaks. Domon apologies and heads off to his duties. Yabu thinks of his family at this point.
We see a large immigation fleet (or fleets) around Gamilas. Yabu's family is on one of the transports. The two girls are arguing with the boy until their mother gets their attention. They resolve the conflict and start to talk about Galman when a ship outside explodes. A strange black and red, tripod looking projectile pierces a few ships as it speeds to the surface of Gamilas, impacting in ones of the many holes in the planet's crust. Ominous music plays.
(end of episode two)
Spoiler for Yamato 2205 Episode Three:
We begin with Dessler's fleet getting a distress signal from Gamilas and him ordering his ships to move.
One Gamilas, the local defense ships move in on the weird tripod looking object that appears to be jack hammering into the planet. But the cruiser's guns do nothing, for it has some sort of shielding.
Hiss is getting briefed on this object. They speculate on if this could be Bolar retaliation, but I think they figure this tech is beyond the Bolar Federation. Hoever there are more of these things landing on Gamilas and their pounding seems to be doing something to the planet's core.
In orbit, Yabu's son watches as more ships explode. Hope suddenly hits the crowd and the boy. Dad's ship has arrived (Frakken's submarine) along wtih Burger's Lambea and Dessler's fleet. Dessler orders for the fleet to attack the tripod things, but even their larger guns do nothing to them. Burger and Frakken fire torpedoes at the case of one of them and knock it down. But more and more keep coming. More than they have torpedoes for.
Hiss and Dessler talk about what they can do. They attempt to evacuate as many as they can into whatever can carry people.
Meanwhile, somewhere in space, we are introduced to the Dark Nebula ships and their commander Dada over classical music that sounds like it is being played on a very old phonograph player.
Gamilas starts to break apart from the pounding of all the tripods. Hiss has Hilde taken away in a shuttle, staying behind. As lava starts to erupt from the core, ships get caught in the lave and melt or explode. Burger orders the remains of his force to abandon the planet before it explodes. Dessler seems willing to die with Gamilas but Talan turns the ship around and joints the retreat, as the planet breaks up. Starsha looks on from Iscandar. Yabu's family is seen huddled together their transport as the reddish-white light overtakes them...as Planet Gamilas explodes.
Dessler is distraught. Knowing his planet was doomed, but not expecting it to go like this. The some refugee ship make for Iscandar just before it breaks orbit. Dessler orders his fleet to follow Iscandar. In the rubble of Gamulas was can hear a message from Earth.
On Yamato, Yabu has lost contact with home and wonders if there is a communications problem. He asks some passing science division personal, but they sort of ignore him. Domon happens by and the two got and talk about things. This includes what happened to Domon's father so this is likely important. During this time, Yamanami talks to Kodai, Sanada, and Yuki about a Gamilas controlled Warp Gate in the Milky Way that they are using to move people to planet Galman, and that the Gamilas have stationed several ships there to keep it protected against the Bolar. there is something else here, but I am unclear on the issues. Later Kodai and Yuki seem to have some private time in the observation dome while the entry is guarded by Yuki's XO Oota. During this the news that Gamilas has been destroyed and Iscandar is a run away planet hits the ship. This hits Yabu hard, but most of the crew are effected by this news. Admiral Dietz over planet Galman also gets the news about this time. Kodai is informed that Dessler's fleet is chasing Iscandar.
On Iscandar, several of the immigration ships have landed in the now freezing waters around Starsha's city. Hilde is with them helping out where she can. Melda is trying to talk Starsha into something (perhaps leaving), but the two Iscandarian sisters aren't going.
Chasing behind the planet is Burger's group of ships. But as they chase, a fleet of ships comes out of warp behind them. Its is Dada's Dark Nebulan fleet, which opens fire on Burger's ships, destroying a few. Burger whips his ships around and flyes backwards to engage the enemy while still heading for Iscandar. Soon after he gets a call from Talan to clear the area. As Burger pulls his ships up, a large pink ball forms behind the Nebulas fleet. A Dessler Cannon roars in anger as Dessler destroys several enemy ships with one blow. His fleet and the submarines closing on Dada from behind. But Dada is reminded about something (the word "timeline" comes up several times in Dada's conversations with his master). Right after this Iscandar accelerates more and to the Gamilas horror, warps to parts unknown.
(End of Episode Three)
Spoiler for Yamato 2205: Episode Four:
We open on Earth. Captain Todo of the Ginga is reporting on Icandar's warp and is tracking its movements. The closest Earth ships to where Iscandar is going is Yamato's fleet.
Iscandar comes out of warp near a red nebula. The Dark Nebula fleet of Dada's warps out in orbit almost immediately afterwards. Dada is reminded about how much they need Iscandar. Melda Dietz is in her fighter sending a distress call. She is interrupted by Nebulan torpedo bombers burning dowm from orbit. They move to attack the refugee transports. Melda flyes to engage the enemy craft, downing a few before they start fighting back. Her plane takes a little damage, but than help arrives, and Burger's force warps into Iscandar's atmosphere and starts to engage the offending torpedo bombers. Frakken's submarine engages them with anti-fighter torpedoes. Dessler is on orbit on the other side of the planet from the Nebulan fleet. Talan asks if they will use the Dessler Cannon, and I think Dessler says no to that. Though I don't know why exactly. Melda calls Dessler directly and tells him to hurry down to help defend the civilians. Yurisha now tried to talk Starsha into something but again is rebuffed. The name Sasha is dropped with a look at what looks like a soul container like the one Mamoru had in Yamato 2199.
Back in Yamato's fleet there is talk about Iscandar and Gamilas going around. Yabu his besides himself and prepares to leave. Some of the cadets, lead by Tasuke try to talk him out of it, though Domon seems to be in a simular state to Yabu. Tasuke decks Domon around this point. Hosina takes Domon away before Tasuke decide to hit him again, but Hosina takes him to just outside the briefing room where the brass are talking to Kodai about the mission and the Gamilas Gate. it sounds like they are going to abandon Iscandar to its fate. Domon calls them idiots and storms off, which makes Hosino smile.
Domon rallies his closest cadet friends and they hatch a plan to simulate a serious warp power failure that could destroy the ship. For 'safety" Domon and some other (like Sakamoto and Raiden) put on Security uniforms and escort the brass to a shuttle. However the real security was on to them and breaks into engineering to stop the false power overload and stops Domon's group at the shuttle.
Domon and his crew are brought to the bridge. Hosina smiles whem Domon looks over at him. Captain Kodai tells them that such a stunt could get them into a lot of trouble. Domon looks defiant but holds his tongue. Kodai says they should have talked to him first. Domon has a puzzled expression to this statement. Kodai states, that his has a lot more experience with that sort of thing. Domon agrees. Kodai has the brass still put on the shuttle and left at the Gate. Domon's group is returned to their duties, Domon is posted on the bridge in Analyzer's position. Kodai and fleet are going through the Gate to Iscandar. The brass look on. Okita's kids are at it again.
Back on Iscandar, Dessler's fleet is in a bad way. They are physically blocking the Nebulan fleet's shots at the transports with their own ships. Several cruisers, battleships, and one of the carriers goes down defending the transports. Dessler seems wounded. Starsha calls him, and I believe his asks her to leave, but she has other plans. Than Dada's boss calls Dessler. Gorba can be sort of seen well behind Dada's fleet as another wave of beam weapon's fire rains down towards Dessler's fleet. He stares defiantly in the face of death.
But than a missile streaks across the reddend sky, and a blue shield forms over the Gamilas fleet, protecting them from all the incoming fire. Melda, Burger, and Frakken all are shocked, but realize what just happened. Yamato has arrived. Dessler is pleased. With fighters deployed and the three ships racing into the atmosphere of Iscandar, Kodai in his captain's hat, the shock cannon fires.....

Yabu gets lucky he got man up and had a Zaltian Family after that Yamato Mutiny and he got live to tell the tale than the Original Yabu and his mutiners tried to sheltered the old Crystal Castle on Iscandar been prone to Earthquakes and fall to their deaths.
Looks awesome.
I realize that Starsha is going to die in this episode (likely), but I hope her sister survives. It would be a nice touch if she went on to form the "New Iscandar" next to the planet Galman.

Just like the Original movie she rather to die and blew up Iscandar than having the Dark Nebulans to take it expect the remake if the Dark Nebula Empire planning to invade Earth.

I agree.
Starsha is likely going to die again.
But I was hoping that Yurisha survives and goes to the 2nd Iscandar that orbits next to Galman (in the original).

and is it odd in Original Series where Sasha Kodai or Mio Sanada been grew up so fast on the Dark Nebula Invasion on Earth might been in a remake kinda been taking care by Sanada than Mamoru since he was dead in Yamato 2199.
Mecha section was updated with some details about an Andromeda-class ship seen in Part One. AAA-21. Alpharatz.
And details on the 2205 version of Gorba.
Oh boy, looks like we get to see Starsha die....AGAIN.
Hopefully her sister survives and I thought I got a glimpse of the baby carrier, but maybe not.
I Wish Arizona got her role on this battle before the Bolar Wars been the only ship been wanted by the fans of the Original Series even in season 3 of bolar wars had a Arizona Focus Episode but it didnt happen.
Technically speaking, the Bolar Wars arc hasn't started yet. That happens after Galman is settled and fully at war with the Bolar. This is the prelude to that at best.

That would be really nice to see the Arizona in this, even if it was just the ship being built, or going through its shake-down process. A cameo basically.

And what a prelude it is. Very happy thus far with it.
