its a shame they cut the humor parts like the 'dying virgins' joke & change or added new scenes, particularly the unfortunate shift replacement pilot guy of Daryl who watches p0rn on his tablet before getting killed off,
they did somehow fix some parts such as Daryl who is an avid music lover suddenly forgets his favorite portable FM radio for no reason only for his replacement a.k.a. the p0rn guy to return it back to him, also they changed how the pr0n guy met his fate, this time from his own POV via the recording of his MS's eye camera sensor to the cockpit which is then viewed by his superiors & coworkers after successfully retrieving it, to me it made the whole scene more horrifying as he is slowly getting murdered by Io & his Gundam, unable to fight back, you can only hear his final moments, heavily breathing & screaming in terror. |

Man I LOVE Io's cocky, asshole attitude =03! Kinda refreshing to see after so many weak-minded or robot-personality Gundam protagonists. This is definitely a different breed from the usual Gundam formula.

So instead of a the traditional Gundam jacking we get the jacking of a DOM via a shot to the face of the pilot.
Seems like it's breaking from tradition. LOL Awesome animation by the way. Non of that CGI BS. (y) The fear of god was placed on the Zeon pilots when they saw the Gundam.........Amuro must be quite the terror for Zeon pilots in the OYW? |

I'm digging this. That gritty character design is just so refreshing compare to the modern clean line and having jazz worked into the show is just gravy for me. Between the adult cast and the workman-like vibe of the show, this might as well came from the 90s.
Io Flemming manage to be a way cooler character in a single episode for me than Graham Aker did in the whole 00 series by being a badass maniac who loves jazz and gundam in an insane fashion. That Rick Dom hijacking might be the coolest one i seen so far in awhile in a gundam series. Surprised this isn't a movie release considering the length and quality of the show.

If anyone has read the manga, you'll know how Io is going to be.
However, even the manga hasn't make clear his motivation, and it seems like the ONA isn't going either. Compare with Lorenz (a soldier doing his duty), sometime I questions Io's near sociopathic behavior. |

How the heck did Io get the cockpit to open from the outside? I was under the impression that there should be some kind of anti-intrusion device in place for such war machines.

And how would pilots get recovered from a suit when unconscious? There are plenty of reasons to have a manual override for machine access on the outside. And if you have a bogey stuck to your suit I think it's a bit too late to consider locking the doors anyway

Though i did seem vaguely remember one of the Gundam series have used anti-personnel measures when in danger of a cockpit breach.

come to think of it, how many RED Zaku II's were there during the One Year War? aside from the Red Comet himself & the poor sob that is Johnny Ridden who is always mistaken as the Red Comet as a running gag.

^ I agree. Thunderbolt ep. 2 it great by itself.
Still, as an adaptation, with this kind of pacing and abundant of music/BGMs, this episode feels more like a montage than an actual adaptation of the chapters in the manga (shuffled scenes, details lost, all that jazz *pun not intended*). But it's still a well-done & beautiful montage which I prefer more than Unicorn ep. 04 which was considerably cut & rushed.
