When a monolithic society of silver-haired "White Pigs" in the Republic of San Mangloia have to battle a Legion of mechanized Spider-Mechas, they will fight said war "humanely" with the use of "drones" piloted by a group of young men and women who look different from them known as the Eighty-Six, who to them are nothing more than pigs sent to the slaughter for their amusement in a war that is little worth their time. And thus begins the story of 86 .
Mimimi is finally the Main Heroine! It's only from the first episode, but Lena seems like a strong Main Heroine, with beauty, grace, and soft spot for sweets, and it's bolstered by the fact that she's seeming the only person left in the Republic who takes her job of handling the war against the Legion seriously and has enough human decency to care about the Eighty-Six and how wrong what the Republic is doing to them is. She's probably bitten off more than she is ready for by taking over the Spearhead Squadron, but I know she'll try her best . Seems like the one thing Lena and Annette have in common is their bond with their fathers. Lena seems to have gotten her conviction and ideals from her father while Annette got into the same field of studying the Para-Raid as her father . Lena is good looking, whether looking spiffy in her uniform, jammies, or in her black underwear . Okay, Annette seems pretty laissez-faire, but delivering food to your possible marriage partner at his mistress' house with a letter with a kiss on it is pretty awesome . Lena seems to be trying to reach the Eighty-Six with genuine empathy, even if it's not warmly welcomed to those whom she's commanding from a cushy, safe, position where they're oppressors are living. In fact the remains of her old squad seem gleeful at her getting a dose of reality and pain from being stuck with Undertaker, but Lena meant her apology all the same . We also get to see what life is like for the Eighty-Six, where they're seemingly living in a ghetto, trying to make the most of what little life is available to them, before their sent off to battle and quite possibly lose a comrade in battle. But they have their reaper, Shin, by their side to bring their life to as peaceful an end as could be expected on a battlefield . I know they didn't intend it that way...but Lena actually looks kind of cute as a pig princess . Lena thinks this might be just another part of her job with the military and that she'll do her utmost, while the Eighty-Six think she'll be another Handler they have to deal with before she breaks. I'm eager to see how their relationship will change and develop throughout the series . The Opening is a pretty rocking beat, showing Lena and Shin working in tandem in the war and the Eighty-Six battling it out with the Legion. Feels fitting .

This was interesting. There's the world conflict with the machines an Lena's character introduction from the first episode. She seems like a complex character and I'm quite curious on how the show will develop her.
The lives of the 86ers looks pretty tough. Personally, I think the first episode serves as a nice way to introduce the show's ideas, the world setting, and Lena. Animation quality of the show also looks solid, at least so far. Story wise, looks like the show is prepared for a lot of battles ahead. The theme songs and soundtrack also works pretty well. Definitely an impressive start imo.

I kind more or less get what this anime is going on about but I have two questions, maybe I missed something or it will be revealed later so I don't know.
1) About the handler that comit suicide. They said that nothing was found that made him comit suicide and made seems that it was the para-raid thingy that made him insane, but I mean there aren't records of the conversation between the handlers and the units?, I'm sure there is a lot to say with the little we saw of lena and her previous unit. 2) Who was that pig guy death in that chair? |
