1)In the anime's intro, I noticed the West Europe bloc is located in geographic East Europe, and the East Europe bloc is in geographic West Europe. Is this something from the novels, or was there a mix-up?

2)I noticed some countries like Morocco, Mongolia and Somalia are gray shaded without being part of any political bloc. Does that mean they were destroyed during the war? Not sure what Australia's status is, since there's no name on it.

3)Has the LN elaborated what type of governments control the different blocs in the Mahouka universe? ie. democratic Japan, dictatorial China-Korea, communist Russia, etc.

1. Just a mix-up.
2. Either neutral or in a state of anarchy.
3. The Great Asia Alliance (China-Korea) is described as a totalitarian regime. The New Soviet Union kinda describes itself. The USNA and Japan are democracies.

1) I haven't seen any maps associated with the Novels, so going to assume mixup.

2) They actually don't specify, most likely they're treated as third world countries given how invisible they are.

3) The Light Novel hasn't directly stated, but the "USNA" definitely still has a President, so it seems to be assuming whichever country is the major power of that bloc kept its government.

OK, so the information is there, but just not translated.

Then that means that yes, the original map IS screwed up too. :P Either that or someone plays WAY too much Mahjong.

Well, there is a JP wiki also.

About countries and Leagues of nations that appear in the novels: http://www49.atwiki.jp/mahouka/pages/119.html

About the 13 Apostles: http://www49.atwiki.jp/mahouka/pages/44.html

No, nothing outside of translating via automation.

However, I think I see how the East and West got confused, after thinking about it. The section where it's mentioned looks is like descriptive text, so the information about where it is consists of a phrase/sentence rather than an actual map label. Someone labeling the map probably wasn't paying attention when putting up the labels and Engrished it.

It would be like if someone took that USNA section and replaced the text with "Mexico and Canada were absorbed into the United States" instead, resulting in someone labeling the left part of it Mexico, the middle part of it Canada, and the eastern part of it United States.

LOL They just took that map and made a mess with Europe.

Japanese people won't complaint that much, but in some boards that was a hot topic.

Well, it seems that USNA is actually as ^ said previously, USA absorbing countries from Panama to Canada and some Arctic Islands.
Brazil is the same even in 2095.
The Great Asian Union is apparently in war with everyone, Japan, ASEAN.

And automatic translation gives an interesting result

About the map.

A plausible reason for its...weirdness is that, if you look carefully, Japan on that map is right in the center. For reasons I shall leave to others to speculate, this map was decided to be Japanocentric instead of being Eurocentric like our maps are. As such, according to this point of view, Europe is closer to Japan's west coast.

Except it's not. If you look at the Japanese image, it's not a one line label, it's a multi-line descriptive text written left to right using the East and West EU names as part of the text.

My bad, that one's obviously going to be viewed as wrong, no matter the justification.

I don't see the problem with the division of the EU, besides the name mix-up. If they put Germany+Austria and maybe the Nordics in the West EU, then it's a pretty good split between the original EU/NATO member states and the former Warsaw Pact nations+Balkans (aka all the poorer EU states).

Well, its kinda interesting to speculate about what did happen with the world up until 2045.

If Brazil didn't change at all, it could mean they were a solid nation or just didn't really need other countries' resources given its large area in SA.

The other part of SA had to unite themselves even when they share a past of hostilities between them.

The whole world is now like that probably because the needed resources for living and for the war. The losses where just massive, and if they could've used nuclear weaponry the globe would've been devastated.

Now it make sense as for the reason magicians worked together to avoid a nuclear crisis that not only could increase the death rate, but its radiation effect in the nature.

Have the novels properly introduced any New Soviet characters yet?
(ie. the main characters have met with/fought against/fought with them.)

Because I'm wondering if the New Soviets look anything like these Soviets.
Spoiler for The New Soviets?:

So which foreign belligerents has the author introduced thus far?
PS. Would my idea for the New Soviets look been acceptable?
