lol. You saying the added dimensions of colour and movement would shake this very reality to the core, to the point of perhaps even dissolving our individually AT-fields....?

Yes. Animating RE-Take would be so incredibly amazing that it would bring about Third Impact.

Unfortunately some people find the porn in it intrusive. Which is kind of sad, as the story IS very good, but whenever I try to get some of my friends to read it, the moment they see the funny business going on between Shinji and Asuka they pass off on it.

As for the connection of this timeline with the TV series...
Spoiler for Contuinity:

Retake is a lot like negimaru in a way (also by the same studio)

It accentuates the (supposed) personality defects of the characters to point that you may want to vommit, yet at the same time it tries to sell you the idea that because these characters are completely broken they are hence, complementary and perfect for each other.

Some find it terribly romantic. I find it filthy pretentious pair shipping.

Which is why I like Rebuild's version of Asuka. She's deals with her mental problems in a much more ::gasp:: positive way.

EoE shipped them together too, in its odd way...

It wasn't the romance I liked, it was the entire concept of the story and the fact that, despite the differences, it really felt like Eva.

I have to ask, have any of you cranked up the volume high enough to hear the tunes playing on Shinji's SDAT? I was surprised at first that they seemed to be alternative rock and pop pieces, far from the classical music I assumed it to contain in the TV series... Which makes me wonder if they were included in the movie's OST.

At the end of the day, Rebuild isn't supposed to be entirely faithful to the original, it's an alternate retelling, with a few references here and there to the original to keep old fans happy. If people want to stick to the original, that's what the Renewal Project was for.

So, I can only hope for the best for Rei Rei.
Oh, my tongue was very firmly in my cheek when I said it "wouldn't be Eva" without Rei getting torn to shreds.

That said, I'll be surprised if she makes it through in one piece...but then the new Eva movies have been nothing if not surprising.

Yes, they are. At the end of each volume of the original soundtrack.

By the way, did anyone notice that Shinji's SDAT player...advances...?

Cool, that's nice to know. Might have to track down those volumes then.

Yeah, the SDAT seems to not only to automatically advance, but loops as well. Though, many of the older tape-based walkmans also had this function, mind.

Whoops, didn't pay too much attention to what was actually ON the SDAT. Interesting, going to have to rewatch.

It was one of the things that really jumped out at me, since I remember Matt Greenfield (probably erroneously) talking about how the whole TV series was a flashback set during episodes 25 and 26, which is why the SDAT player flipped back and forth between tracks 25 and 26.

Needless to say, seeing a different number caught my attention.

Also..
Spoiler for More scandalous SDAT info:

I would choose Re-Takes Asuka over Rebuilds Asuka anytime. Now choosing Re-Take's Asuka or TV series/EoE Asuka may be more difficult, but one thing for certain - I would chose Sohryu over captain Shikinami that's for sure.

I would not call it positive - I would call it dumbed down and turned into a simple harem tsundere moe, but to each their own.

A bit presumptuous aren't we? I just re-watched my (admittedly low quality) copy of the movie, and I'm finding none of this so-called generic tsundere nonsense you keep on insisting every time you post. The girl still has obvious issues, but instead of bottling it in this time around, she's doing something about them.

Spoiler for Stuff:

Talking about the different version of Asuka, I never really liked Shikanami, as for one, she seems too positive, and looks at the world differently. It's not that I liked her original fucked up personality, it's just because of that, she was much more closer to Shinji than she had originally wanted to. In a way, it predefines how she changes from meeting him on the ship, up to the mindrape where she was totally hoping on him rescuing her.
But to each their own.

The TV series cannot be relied upon for characterization references any more, remember? And given what's alluded to already (one has to be new to the fandom not to spot the clues)... Well, clinging to the what one expected in the TV series will only result in disappointment.

Sounds like it already HAS resulted in disappointment...

I dunno, I understand the feeling...it's kind of like running into an old, long-lost friend after many years, and realizing that what you liked about them originally is just...gone.

But yeah, for ME at least, Sohryu was my favorite character from the show, and I liked Shikinami a lot. It strikes me that they HAD to lighten her up a bit, or else she would've been as unsympathetic in the new movie as she had been through a large portion of the TV sow. And that would've killed the movie.
