1440 flat screen or 1080-1440 curved screen gaming monitor?

First off PC parts are shitballs expensive in my country so I have to compromise most of the time. This also means 4k gaming is out.

That being said I've decided it is time to upgrade my monitor. Asked some of my friends for suggestions as well and I've boiled down my choices to 2 types.

Curved screen monitor that is at least 1080 because 1440s are hella expensive.

Standard 1440 flat screen.

I guess my main question is that if I had to choose then which one is overall better? A higher resolution or a curved monitor at the same 1080 resolution?

Edit - oops and before I forget...

Intel i5 from 2014 forgot the specs.
MSI gtx970
16gb RAM
Samsung 250gb SSD

I'd go with the 1080. Your 970 is going to struggle with 1440p. I don't think it's wise to jump past 1080 right now anyway, even for televisions. The bump in resolution is nice but there is still a lot of fighting over standards. In a few years that will mostly be ironed out and the tech will be much more affordable.

Thanks for the input.

I've actually already decided to get instead a 1080 24" monitor that however runs at 144hz. The only problem is that the only one I can get is a Freesync monitor but my card is a 970. Gsync monitors here are hella expensive.

Will 144hz still be achievanle even without an AMD card to use Freesync?

Depending on your settings and the game, maybe. 1080p 60fps is going to be most of your gaming experience though, so while the higher refresh will help make things feel smoother, you'll still see syncing issues from time to time (like screen tearing). So you may need to tweak some settings occasionally.

I can't speak for the syncing tech since I don't use AMD and Gsync is overpriced at the moment.

Well the monitor won't arrive til a few days. Meanwhile I'm running some overclocks on my 970 to squeeze out some more performance out of it, before I upgrade to an AMD card with freesync down the line.

Probably a Vega card, assuming they finally announce the lineup.

I got to experience some real HD gaming on a friend's ROG SWIFT PG348Q, and it was incredible. Since it was 34", the curved display really helps fill your entire vision and immerse you into the game so much more.

But as Solace said, I think that sticking to 1080p monitor is the wiser choice. And the highest fps I've played at is around 120, and I can't really tell the difference between that and 60 fps. Let alone 144.

Well my monitor arrived and yes... the difference between 60 and 144hz is staggering especially in shooters. Overwatch runs so silky smooth...

I understand why people say once you go 144 there's no going back to 60.

It's a 24 inch Viewsonic. Can't remember the model but they only have one of the type.
