What an utterly bizarre and cluttered mish mash on things. Sci-fi, late Renaissance, mecha, tarot, the Nobunaga "assembly", and more....
I will definitely have to wait a bit on this one, watching a few more eps before deciding... or even getting some kind of "read" on this ambitious, messy clutter.

I have absolutely no idea what I just watched. There was way too much going on. I am also not too fond of how they decided to portray Joan of Arc.
That all being said I will continue to watch for at least a few more episodes due to the cast. That was quite an eargasm.

Too much bishonens here and Jean doesn't seem particulary interesting either, but... everything else was ridiculously awesome and epic! My thirst for mecha will be satisfied! Which is something Buddy complex appearently isn't capable.

Characters look nice ^^
The story is like an alternate universe with mecha. Wonder why they always choose Nobunaga & his crew from history.. It's not like the Japanese don't have any other famous historical characters. Anyway, this version looks promising. It's like Sengoku Basara & Gintama crossbreed + western history legends. I'll be watching this.

Jean "Kaguya" DeArc
Interesting in the legend of Kaguya-hime, Kaguya had golden hair. The dynamic of lovers of nearby planets and feudal mecha is reminiscent of Escaflowne. Nobunaga's mech is closer to a Aquarion in Evol than a VF-25 from Macross Frontier. Of the historical names used one struck out for me due to local history. Ferdinand Magellan. Here he is a one eyed admiral leading an expedition going to fragmented planet. He is so gonna die... Magellan and his crew was massacred because they got involved with local tribal politics. |

Oh yesssssss. This is pretty much what I expected, and I'm really pretty happy with it. An over-the-top mess of characters, eras, outfits, space travel, culture clash, romance and adventure, oh my--! Bring it on, Nobunaga the Fool. And then there are the mecha, which I think look really good. Admittedly, the animation is less shiny than I hoped it would be, but eh, it does the job.
I do wonder why the Planet West is a mish-mash of post-Roman European cultures and eras (from King Arthur to da Vinci & Magellan), while Planet East seems to be pretty much stuck in a single well-defined historical period of a single country... I guess it's one of those things that we shouldn't think too deeply about. Anyway, the potential weak link for me is Miyano Mamoru - when Nobunaga first appeared I was pleasantly surprised, but then he started angsting and deepening his voice trying to sound fierce, and sorry Miyano, but it's just not working. :/ He really shouldn't force this kind of voice. Maybe he should've switched roles with Sakurai Takahiro or even Kaji Yuuki (I already know what to expect from Sakurai, but I would've loved to hear Kaji as Nobunaga). Oh well, hopefully he'll find the best voice in the coming episodes. Quote:
Ha, I guess this is kind of like how Sengoku Basara would've turned out with Kawamori behind the wheels... The Basara characters certainly wouldn't be too out of place in this show, their Honda Tadakatsu is already a mecha and everything. (And for a moment I thought that was Paku Romi as Uesugi Kenshin...) |

It's just me or Nobunaga just resembles Amata/Kagura? Now, try to put a purple wig on Jeanne and ... les jeux sont faits
I didn't know what I was going to watch and, well, I still don't know, but I'll be in for a while for sure.

Hmm i was entertained with the first episode, for some reason it reminded me of Brave 10, the thing that i didnt liked was Jean's portrayal... i dont' think that a typical bishoujo in distress fits her... btw the mechs look awesome.

First episode was simply awesome. Nobunaga is epic, Da Vinci is epic, mechas are good. But Mamoru Miyano as older Nobunaga isn't very good, compared to the other depictions, like Okiayu Ryoutaro, Wakamoto Norio, Yamadera Kouichi or Kosugi Juurota. We will hear young Nobunaga for most of the time, though, so it should be alright.
Probably my main anime for this season. |
