Raw Providers and Reading Sites Issues
I'm creating this thread to funnel all of the recent discussion over the troubles over raw providers and reading sites into one place.
As some of you may be aware, there have been two major issues recently that have affected major internet raw providing sites and manga reading sites. I'll explain briefly for those who do not understand what is going on. First, major Japanese publishers have decided to take a firmer stance against raw providers of manga. This is largely because the manga market has been declining in Japan, and part of the blame is the increased amount of scans available on the internet. This is has led to people being able to read scans before the actual publication hits the streets, which in turn means there's less motivation to actually buy the manga once it's available. While this issue is primarily targeted at Japanese consumers it also affects licensed titles in other countries. What this means is that major raw providing sites have been dropping releases or shutting down completely. It doesn't mean that scans won't continue to be available, but it will make them more difficult to come by and readers outside of Japan will have longer waits for raws and translations. The second major issue is that Google and their partners have decided to threaten manga reading sites with removal of their advertising (which keeps those sites up since they use a ton of bandwidth) due to their stance on "questionable" content such as lolicon and yaoi manga. This has led to some sites removing most of, if not all of, their mature manga. While these issues will affect the ease of being able to view manga, those outside of Japan will still be able to find such content if they dig around a little bit. However, what this means for our forum is that the moderators will have to be tougher on links to content. So I'm establishing two rules that will affect everyone here. 1. You are not allowed to post links to any raws, translations, or scans of licensed manga or novels, or any site that contains such content, PERIOD. I don't care that your favorite site shut down or removed content and now you have to look somewhere else. That somewhere else is not here. We will remove any such links and users will be warned/infracted.. With that said, this thread will be stickied and open for discussion. Keep it civil and don't post just to whine or there will be consequences.

It seems that they aren't permanently removing all of those. Rather they took down everything in their mature category, and scattering of other stuff they had tagged as being ecchi, until they could actually look at it and sort things out.

This is starting to get worser Apparently right now there's a heavy discussion in Japan between Mangaka and the goverment about a recently proposed law. With this law, the goverment intends to ban all sexual behaviors of fictional characters who look below 18.

The only mature manga I read is Ikkitousen, and thankfully there are sites that still provide the scans:
"... is a fan run site and we will not allow our advertisers to dictate to us how to they want our site to be run. If an advertiser does not like how we are running the site, we will simply find a new advertiser." |
