I know exactly how you feel Sigh... us anime newbies. But like someone said, maybe you can pick up AIR first to get a feel for Kanon.

I think that Air is a totally different series from Kanon. Tragedy just oozes from every corner of that series. If it's bothering you that much, then go and watch the first episode only on YouTube. That approximates the first episode of the new series from what I hear and you'll get a taste of Kanon.

Wouldn't it be a scream if they bucked the norm and released this on DVD with English subtitles?

On the other hand, there are some people who wish that they can forget the story and experience Kanon 2006 anew.

To some extent, watching the Toei version is like reading spoilers. You know more or less what the story is but you do not experience the "real" thing (the animation story is only a shadow when comparing to the original game story, due to the amount of materials left, etc).

Well, as another member of the "new to Kanon" club, I hope that the veterans won't post too many accidental spoilers

I loved Air and liked Kanon 2006 promo. And spoiled myself by reading two chapters of manga. Character interaction looks promising and now I'm bit regretting. Should I leave it? How fully it tells story? It's just too vols. These two weeks are killing me.

Don't worry much. After it was pointed out that there's still a lot of newcomers who haven't seen the original Kanon or played the game, people have been very careful with the spoiler tags. Of course, can't guarantee any posts before that post to be spoiler free. ^^;

Is that the one scanslated already? I don't remember much about the middle, but I do remember that the ending of the manga followed the Toei anime ending very closely.

Ending may be similar; but most of the manga is more or less a Nayuki love-fest... the perfect antidote for those turned off by the Toei anime version.

I'm pretty sure it's not. It's a parody. Of a parody. Utsura Uraraka signs his work with an "E". He has done Chururya-like 4Komas for Aria and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, however.

Nononono, you misunderstand. The story was that good, but because we already KNOW what's going to happen, we cannot have the pleasure of having the twist impact us as much as the first time.

But that does not prevent us from enjoying KyoAni's presentation.

Let me ask you, why do people flock to see Peter Jackson's King Kong a year back when they knew that the ape's going to die at the end ?

because its king kong!! you have to see the big softie...
but i think the question was : should we not see the original because the story/animation was screwed up?

Likewise, do people want to see the original 1930's King Kong before they catch Peter Jackson's Remake ?
