Welp the nico live stream was just VAs talking. There was an audio only stream of the episode.

Gathering from 30 minutes of the stream (since it got disconnected at the 30 min mark), there is great BGM throughout the entire episode. The pacing was a bit fast. A couple of gags were omitted. Im guessing something like random ambulances wouldnt have been a good idea in TV format. Great voice acting and it was really fun. There was a couple laughs from the crowd so they were digging it.

Overall it sounded like the first episode is going to be good but a bit rushed with a couple of things trimmed.

Episode 1 (1 hour special):

Better than I had expected. We got introduction of the main characters and the mysterious vibe of the setting already.

Lucia is awesome. I also kinda like the chemistry between Tennouji and Yoshino. Felt quite rushed but I'm fine with it so far. I hope the soundtrack improves a bit though. In the meantime, I think the show captured the atmospheric setting, premise, and character expressions quite well.

In terms of animation was really great, the story seems instesting so far so I'll keep watching this. My issue here was the voices, really not fitting the characters, especially the voice of the MC.

I'm gonna keep this testing for a while, at least until episode 4, there is something a bit off about this anime.

Now, a question for the ones who knows about the source, I've seen a lot of people on different places complaining about this being rushed as f**k, is that true or not?

Excellent premier, those 48 minutes felt like 15, makes me a bit sad the others will be normal length. Designs and music are spot on, the animation is quite decent in general spiking up to great in certain parts (Kagari's ribbons). Story-wise will be interesting even for those that already read the VN thanks to the original material.

I just finished the first episode and bam. what a first episode! the flied action of the characters are beautiful. From the flow of the hair to the sleeves of the dress. My only problem is the art itself.... I almost even cried when the scene with Chihaya carrying the desk with one hand. its like they didn't even bother and just put it together with the background..

Loved the first episode. I played the game for sometime now and I still enjoyed the jokes. The paced is fast. I watched this after love live sunshine but unlike that one. I come here with knowledge and I still loved it. Minus the visuals that almost me me cry. No... I'm already crying when Kotarou said mammoth

I think that even the people who played the game will enjoyed this series. Totally recommend it but just don't nit pick on the crappy art..... >_> okay I'm nitpicking. I'm just.... ugh..

nice key coffee. Reminds me of key coffee in angel beats scene with Yuri and Otonashi.

The events had been rearranged and some are altered to fit the anime but its still nice.

But unlike sunshine that a lot of things that happen inside the 20 minutes. Here, I can feel it. The jump or transition from each scene is just too fast or sudden. Especially the nightly visits of our friendly ghost to Koutarou. They didn't elaborate it much for me. As a gamer. I understand what's happening but if I'm just an anime viewer. That scene would be a bit confusing. A hunted ghost or something? that would be my first reaction and my first question is who is she? plus the prolong of the episode reminds me of re:zero that reminds me that this is not the beginning. It just solidifies it as the episode go.

So the main point here is the question. Myself or the World.

Well....this was a confusing mess. Felt like I accidentally hit fast-forward button.

Let's see:
  • Directing is flat out bad. Bad camera angles, no build up, no atmosphere. Felt like watching a recap episode.
  • The pacing seems to be break-neck speed. We are jumping from character to character to character, from scene to another scene without even getting a clear grasp on what any of those characters are or what is going on. Not good.
  • Plot-wise this reminds me of Angel Beats mixed with Chaos;Head. Pretty typical episode and plot set up so far from what I could gather from utter chaos this episode was. Typical japanese schoolkid gets involved in some mess, gets super powers and harem, saves the day, etc.
  • Animation quality is...baaad. Like 2006 bad. This seems to want to do action and I just can't see that happening with this kind of animation.
  • The character designs....Well this is a Key show alright.

Will watch maybe one or two more episodes but so far this is not grabbing me and feels very dull.

The jumps to the next skit with the Re:write logo are sudden and kinda disconnected, I agree, but I don't really mind because I'm sure all of those strange events things and implications that have happened will become relevent to each other sooner or later and I'm interested in finding out more. I've always liked key's lighthearted yet exaggerated humour like Chi-chan literally falling down the hill and ending up on a freaking tree. I actually expected for her to land on the tree while trying to save a cat who got on a tree but couldn't get down or some basic situation like that but nope, haha. Also I thought that eyepatch girl has asthma and she has a dangerous illness that's infectious which is why she cleaned her whistle but I guess she's just whacky and nothing else.

OST is too tacky, they probably try to invoke nostalgia with people who played the game, but it doesn't fit too well with the situations sometimes. I can still let it slide since they seem to be intentionally going for a game event~ish feeling, I guess.

I was thinking about how this first episode is somehow very familiar, then I remembered why when I heard the hauu~ of Chihaya when she was stuck in that tree. It was confirmed when I saw that it was from Key

First episode was okay till the last quarter or so. The pacing issues were more apparent and it became confusing. All I know about the VN is that it's very long so I expect there's gonna be a lot missing.

I really don't get your critics. It took me around 2-2,5 hours to read this part of VN and I'm a really slow reader. So adapting it in 48 min ep even with some additional scenes is just fine. And I don't see why some people don't like the voice acting or direction. The only bad things here is really average 3d in 2 scenes and general chardesigns.

If you can can get past the middling art (Not animation. That was actually pretty great), this adaption is going just fine for now. Just give me more Chiwa Saito.

Also spot the Kanon reference? Even Romeo Tanaka knows what the best Key work is.

Ep 01

Okay ... as someone coming into the series nothing nothing about the VN other than its name and some of the art of the charas (and pv for the anime) this first episode as a whole made very little sense.

Not that I did not enjoy it, mind you. I was just ... lost ... especially at all parts related to oddness (weird oddness, not humorous oddness - the latter was quite effective for me) and invariably bound up with the nocturnal arm chewing ribbon-wielding gothloli girl.

The cgi was kinda clunky for me, but I am hard to please with cgi, so no surprise at my reaction there.

I did feel like it was a bit fast paced. Not painfully so, but I noticed it, and it yanked me out of the narrative at times. But hey, when you do not have a lot of time such things happen.

Well, on the whole I am willing to give the next few eps a try, I think. ^^

Almost felt very generic at times, and the episodic parts of introducing each character felt really disjointed, but production values look to be decent (although the art at some parts....ya. )

A one-hour special is suitable for such a premise. If the exposition had to be done in 3-4 episodes before the real meat comes, viewers will be bored by then.

Realised this is Key, and it's from a VN (though I never see the source), it looks very Key-formulaic. But I'm along for the ride.

I played the game so there's not much I can say regarding the plot, but my god, I actually enjoyed that first episode! I wasn't expecting much because I didn't like the ribbon girl's route compared to the rest of the girls, but we'll see if they can do this since it's supposedly an original route. Best buchou is kinda left out but that's alright, makes me more excited about the next episode.
