Oh no, Jero's not getting any love. I really like him and I'm glad he is able to be successful. It's good for Enka and good for Japan as a whole. I'm not really into Enka at all, but I like to listen to his songs. More so than Umiyuki though, I like some of the songs he did of other Enka singers. I forgot the name of the one I really like. Unfortunately though, I haven't been able to hear much since I left Japan. I think he released a CD a little while ago. I should go check it out sometime.

Speaking of Jero, I heard he's about to perform in DC, at the Seventh Annual National Cherry Blossom Festival on the 28th.

I couldn't find the information on Jero but that would be cool to go to.

It’s really crazy how his whole thing came about. He was studying to be a computer engineer (and finished that I think maybe) and then bam, a switch to stardom in Japan. But that unexpected factor plays a big part in why I like him and am happy for him.

How he came to get that far was unlike anything else, and he also has a place on the Japanese music charts. I like Meiko Kaji and her ballads, and now I'm gonna like this dude, too.

This might be more news, from what I've read off:

The Opening Ceremony will be held at the National Building Museum following the family activities from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. Also open to the general public free of charge, festivities will include remarks by Washington dignitaries and performances, including
* "Waltz of the Cherry Blossoms" from The Washington Ballet's The Nutcracker
* Enka singer Jero
* Hip-hop dancer Kenichi Ebina
Seriously, Jero needs at least a street team to spread the word in his home country.

Addendum: If Gonzo plans to try yet another shot at an Afro Samurai follow-up, I think they have a good singer in mind to do either the OP or ED...

This one's a portion of a TV program looking into the Jero phenomenon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTd2TG3ajLY

Oh okay, never mind. I think I saw the information from the first link you provided a while ago. I guess it just slipped my mind. It's too bad I didn't live closer otherwise I probably would've went. Oh well, maybe he'll come over to Chicago sometime.

I don't know how popular Enka could get in the States. Not exactly the music everybody's looking for.

Hmm...we may see something with this if they make another one. (I haven't seen them so I don't know how good they are though.)

And that last link I actually saw on TV while I was back in Japan. Jero's great. I hope he continues to be successful all his life. And I'm really glad to see Japan accept him. It's a step in a better direction for Japan.

Hmm...I'd like to see that. But I wonder how much of it will just be recap stuff.
