In all, there's no reason to change the name, really.
Everything that happens (save for a few things) is a direct result of the events of Sword Art Online.
And I just realized this is a "No Spoilers" thread, so i'll be quite about THAT.

Yes!!!! They haven't announced a release date yet but it's coming soon!!

It's likely to be in Summer (season starts in July) --> my guess. Reason being, the rebroadcast started in Winter (Jan), and according to this month's Dengeki Bunko issue (page 12), the next issue (selling in April) will feature information on episode 1. All this adds up to Summer --> my guess.

If i remember correctly, they didn't make it for the exhibition. They made it to use as a model when animating the gun in Season 2.
Reki has made a comment about getting it commercialized, so fans can buy a replica.

Edit: I meant to say that Reki made a comment about WANTING to get it commercialized (but it might not)

I some how see this being a bigger hit then SAO (at least in the western hemisphere, not sure how big SAO got in Japan where it was released)...cause you know....this is 'Murica and you know how us westerners love us some guns. :P
