I'm looking for rivals who, on the surface, seem to be great guys. They're popular and seem to always make the right decisions, but when you dig in they wind up rather unpleasant. For instance there's Kouya from KonoSuba, a guy whose words and actions initially seem like those of a good man with a noble heart fighting to save the world, but from the start his words and actions seem a little TOO good, feeling a little off somehow, sort of fitting with the girls' later judgment of him as a presumptuous, narcissistic jerk. Or then there's Hazuki, AKA Hose from Oresuki, a young man who seems to always have the right answer almost immediately, seems to be dedicated to those he cares about, and just generally comes across as a lovable main character to rival the scheming hero Joro, but it starts to show that really he's not perceptive enough and his impulsive acts tend to hurt those around him, especially the girls who secretly love him but hide it in order to try to force his crush to date him. Both guys appear to be good guys that'd make great heroes in their own stories, but really they're not.
