Sayonara Watashi no Cramer (Farewell, My Dear Cramer)

Quote:
Amazon Japan, in the description for its listing of the October issue of Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine, lists that Naoshi Arakawa's Farewell, My Dear Cramer (Sayonara Watashi no Cramer) manga is getting a film adaptation and a television anime adaptation.
Plot Summary:

Quote:
With no soccer accomplishments to speak of during the entirety of Sumire Suo's junior high school years, the young wing gets an odd offer. Suo's main rival, Midori Soshizaki, invites her to join up on the same team in high school, with a promise that she'll never let Suo “play alone.” It's an earnest offer, but the question is whether Suo will take her up on it. Thus the curtain opens on a story that collects an enormous cast of individual soccer-playing personalities!

Epiode 1. As part of growing up, I find it interesting how they're exploring the teen years of these characters, especially Nozomi. It's about making choices including the club to join.

Fresh off from this episode, I like the youthful look of the cast. We got introduction of the main characters and their designs looks similar to Shigatsu, given that the work is by the same author.

I think Nozomi is likable character so far given her friendly personality. There's also soccer themes in this show and I want to see how that will play as part of the main storytelling.

When I was growing up, my dad was the varsity soccer coach at the school where he taught. This was in the early 70s, so we're talking boys soccer, of course. And in Indiana in the early 70s, it meant they sometimes had to go out of the state to find other schools they could play.

Onda is the girl with the ponytail, right? The one we see leaving middle school at the beginning? That made me think she was the main character, and then I couldn't understand why they'd suddenly shifted the show's attention over to the other two girls.

Hard to believe it's already been 10 years since Japan won the Women's World Cup.

Some much needed female-centric sports anime, finally.

Yeah, she's the main character.

Because the first chapter of the manga is almost entirely dedicated to those two. It's a bait and switch. Makes you think they're the main characters, only for Onda to take the spotlight from chapter 2 onwards.

OK first episode. By the time the practice match started, I was already lost on who is who. Also not really digging the inconsistent art style on some of the characters' faces/eyes. Wish they were all drawn similarly instead of the way they did it.

Anyways, off to a good start. The ending soccer sequence was pretty cool - very realistic, and that black ball of scribble goes everywhere! I wonder why other sports were shown during that running sequence.

And yeah, good to have another female sport anime, and it's mixed in with some male characters which is good.

Surprisingly interesting first ep. On my watch list so far.

My only nit-pick is seeing their faces through the fence as if it didn't exist. If you wanna do that, just do shots of their faces behind the damn fence!

Yes! It kept looking like they were sticking their heads through holes in the fence.

For some reason I like the designs and this looks nice enough, it was a good thing those two joined a small team, it will make things interesting because there is not point if all the best players are in one team.

I'm guessing that has to be an homage to Dettmar Cramer, the famous German manager.

Still not a fan of the faces phasing through the fences. They're definitely not Kitty Pryde.

The male teacher/faculty advisor brought up a good point. Without a structure, talented young players will not have the proper means to develop their skills and make a living off those skills. It is such a waste and a very common problem among many sports.
