Here comes the punch drunk syndrome. Joe might really be on his way to meet the same fate as Joe Yabuki this time. I think that would destroy the narrative though. I know Liu told Joe he was the type of man who lives and dies on the ring, but the arc with Chief seemed to have taught him what was truly important. If the current Joe were to be told boxing further could kill him, I think he'd give up. He doesn't live entirely for boxing like Yabuki did, nor does he share the same demons.

Come on don’t give more drama with this, nanbu and chief already paid the price so don’t add joe with this.
Anyway he was pretty cold against sacchio but it was the only way to get him, and sacchio didn’t need the “I’m going to die soon” card, he already forgave him. |

To be fair, Joe was effectively world champ, and Sacchio is about 16 and weighs like 130 pounds. There's a reason featherweights don't fight heavyweights. He's no prodigy but it might be a little harsh to say he has no talent for it.

The scene where Joe talked to everyone when they reopened the gym was fantastic. I'm not exactly sure why he even accepted the fight (I know Mac reminds him of Chief, but that doesn't seem like a good enough reason) but at least he's going into that fight with the proper mindset unlike Joe Yabuki.
On the other hand, the whole thing with the evil CEO is pretty terrible.

So Joe telling everyone what he did on the road for years must of been hard to sort all of it out in his head
With the way he running that business it looks like it will be sued into oblivion

Joe opening up to everyone at the gym and wanting to get their opinion on his match really did make me happy to see how far he's come. I'm even okay with him using a gear for a the match considering the reason and symbolism for it

Will someone punch Sakuma already? I hope to see him hitting rock bottom in the final episode.
The episode was almost entirely focused on Mac, and it was a very good one. He's a very sympathetic character.

Yeah, I did really like the focus on Mac's backstory and how meeting up with his former police partner helped him get himself together.
While the show is very much couched in tragedy, I really want Joe and Mac to both come out of their fight OK and get on with their lives with their friends and families. I also very very much want that techbro dude to get what's coming to him. |
