Another great episode. I enjoyed seeing Ayu without her coat on, finally I can see reason to believe she's the same age as Yuuichi. The next episode's preview... hmm. So they're already explaining what's with that swordswoman already. I dunno what to expect in regard to concrete plot from this series, so I just hope they stay away from cliches. i0td put it very nicely when he said it's an episode which makes you feel warm and fuzzy. The animation and art is beautiful, as always.

I half expected an Air cameo somewhere when Yuuichi was given the task of delivering bento to Nayuki at school. They fooled me on that score!
An excellent episode. Not feeling as rushed as Kanon 2002. Some are wondering how they can "stretch" Kanon 2006 into 24 episodes. Frankly I'd have been more concerned about how they could cram Kanon 2002 into 13. No stretching necessary. I also had a feeling, from last week's preview that they weren't going to delve into Mai's story yet. And I was right. Next week we'll get an introduction into what Mai's up to. It will be fun. I almost missed Nayuki's whining about her notes from Kanon 2002, but they handled it in a reasonable and believable way. Kanon 2002: "noto, noto, noto...." As others have sagely observed: no complaints. I don't see Kyoto messing any moment of this series up. So far not a frame has been wasted. |

It appears that I am not the only one who was hoping for some Mai's action in this episode but ... didn't get it

You know, I don't think the amazing quality of the visuals can ever be overemphasized. This ep in particular just had moments where KyoAni seemed to take something ordinary and make it wonderful to look at, eg, Kyuuichi's completed room, the scene with the stars. The animation, directing and cinematography really are close to faultless.
Other than that, I can't think of much to post about that hasn't already been brought up. The story is very slowly and steadily progressing. The banter between characters seems a little more fleshed out than the first series, but obviously they have more time to play with to do this.

Here I was frantically searching through all the scenes with boxes going "where?" .. thinking on as in on-top... then I realized... you mean on as in on the side.. the thing on the side not even resembling potato to me...
hmm.. maybe.. but seems a little obscure, even for Kyoani... |

Wow...loved this episode, especially the Ayu / Makoto interaction. From what I've read in previous posts, that's a new addition that wasn't in the original game, yet it seemed perfectly in character for both of them. It was also nice to see the pace settling down a bit, now that the introductions have been made and they can focus more on character interaction. This is the feeling I was missing during the first couple of episodes, but it's pure bliss now.
I can't think of any real criticism to make, other than the shot of the starry sky didn't look as good as similar shots in AIR. And speaking of AIR: Last edited by Minoto; 2006-10-27 at 23:11. Reason: punctuation... |

I was bummed about not seeing Mai either, but it looks like she's got some good scenes in ep. 5.
And you shouldn't blame the moe typhoon (Ayu) for her effects on Yuichi. She did help him to unpack his room. She's also took some zings from him too. The only ones who are unscathed so far are Akiko and Kaori. That totally reminds me.. Spoiler:

Nayuki's red bow seriously stoke the episode for me. <3
Mai's scene at the end was 100% stunning. It also helped having the pretty sky/stars scene right before it. Next episode looks to have plenty of each girl-time, can probably see that happening from now on, though - i'm very much looking forward to Mai's treatment next week. I also noticed the Air reference, nice add-in~
