Having given this a lot of thought, maybe they did the right thing by not making the characters look exactly like their anime counterparts. Yes, the series is popular in Japan, but even with the best of cosplayers, a movie with people with cotton candy-colored hair and really bright, over-the-top school uniforms might not go over so well. The basics are still there, at least:

Mion dresses like a tomboy, Rena dresses cute, and Satoko dresses like a typical little girl and seems as mischevious as she should be.

As for Rika, I can't help thinking she seems a little too old. I know killing off a kid in a gruesome manner is a sensitive subject, but it's just not as fititng with an older girl.

This is obviously going to be a hit or miss depending on the girl playing Rena.

Have you learned nothing? ANYTHING cute can be made to look scary.

Nonsense. You may say psycho-Rena seems scary, but at the same time, you know you're thinking:

"I wanna take her hoooooooome!!!"

Higurashi Live Action Film Sequel. Yeah, they've already announced a sequel, before the first flm is in theatres. Which is good, I suppose.

I wonder if they'll turn Watanagashi-hen into a movie. Like Onikakushi-hen, it too can stand on its own, so it would make sense. On the other hand they might wish to condense the future chapters into a limited number of movies and adapt a later chapter or even a composite of different chapters.

Yay!!! But i wonder will they continue to do Watanagashi-hen after Onikakushi-hen (the first live action movie)? Because it will be quite difficult for the actress to play as Shion and Mion at the same time...unless they really get themselves a real pair of twin... hmmm...

Unless she herself has a twin...

I don't think they mention it in the anime.

Nah, they definitely did.

"I, Irie Kyosuke, will be the one to take Satoko-chan home!"

Or something like that. They certainly would have during the start of the final arc, at least.

I know their names but I was tired and copy pasted everything my friend said, even the parts that she said that she doesn't know the names.

Anyway, looking forward to this movie.
Don't like Rika and Satoko being older, but I'm still going to watch it.

It appears that one Japanese review site gave the Higurashi movie a rating of 10%. I must admit that this doesn't augur very well for its content.

I wouldn't be surprised...how much can you cover in 2 hours anyway? Those who already played the game wouldn't care much about real life characters, those who havn't would only be confused and give up. Added to the fact that (according to the review) that the movie doesn't have a hook like the games did to keep people intrigued and wanting to find out more, the movie can only get a low review.
