And don't think writing books is age limited though...

First she has to gather the knowledge to write the book. Then she has to write it. Then it has to become known throughout the land - possibly in a world where they don't have printing presses yet. Then it has to get out of her possession. Then a cult or coven or some such magical organization has to form around it, one big enough to draw in young members like the boy.

All that takes a while, even if she was a Mozart-like prodigy as a child.

Ep 3 was the best episode that has aired so far. There wasn't much in the of plot advancement, but unlike the previous the scenes were directed without any awkard writing and the exposition was integrated into the story much better in general. Well, saved for that part when it was reaveled that Beastfallen eat people than immediately following it up with a sudden coninvent example. You want do things like that reverse so doesn't come off as tacky. Otherwise Zero's sex slave caught complete off guard.

I think you could have a better cover there, but I suppose there no fun in that. Anyway I guess the dog wolf guy will be back since He's in the OP.

Even Peasants logic was based on some level common. The whole scene was like some trying to force the idea that 2+2 was actually 5 and not 4. Besides they had a Witch problem not a Thief one so I don't get the impetus for what they did there.

Out of our 3 leads the Merc is the only one that is fleshed out and even then it's not really much. His backstory was barely explored and delivered without much fanfare for what supposed to be a MC. Outside of her being known as the creator of the Grimoire of Zero and having sect dedicated to Zero herself still remain of a mystery who has yet to display a new side beyond her playful and socially awkward side shown the audience since episodes one. We know next to nothing about Albus at this point too.

IMO the main charm point for principal cast right now is how well they play off each other and less their individual personalities. They have a decent amount characterization, but I don't see how their fleshed out beyond your average anime this early on.

I think he's at least gotten to the point of "I'm too tired to care anymore" . She just ends up there the next night anyways so no point losing it every morning.

So far just enjoying their interactions. Can flesh out backstories (especially for Zero) as time goes along. The connection with these two is a good place to focus the story for now. No doubt going to have some difficult times ahead so nothing wrong with building up the bond that will be important. And if nothing else the back and forth is just plain fun.

This episode made me imagine things I wish I hadn't, with that sex slave talk. Of course, I'm sure fanarts already exist.

Just a quick comment about Zero's possible age. This is Sorena:

According to Albus, Sorena has a grown-up granddaughter. Sorena was burnt at the stake. (What a waste!)

I'd guess that most witches stop ageing (or mostly stop) once they become powerful enough - I've seen this concept in other witch stories.

To add to that, Sorena still looked exactly the same at the time of her death as when she gave the old lady her blessing to get married all those decades ago in the flashback.

Zero is obviously older than she looks, but I don't think she's all that old. I'd say she's in her thirties or forties at best (completely random estimate).

She could be 400 years old for all we know.

She could be and it would explain her way of speaking but I'd guess this isn't the case. We've heard her mumbling about "shishou-sama" in ep 1 and this is presumably the person who taught her sorcery. Maybe that person is 400 years old and Zero got her way of speaking from that person.

I'd guess that she was born or raised amongst a community of research witches and basically lived in that cave most of her life. She probably got taught sorcery at a very young age and having mastered it when still young she stopped ageing at that point. Being young she probably came up with the idea for magic quite soon afterwards - ie before sorcery was too ingrained into her way of thinking.

I wouldn't be surprised if she's slightly older than Merc but not much. Either way, she has little real world experience and her common sense is out of whack.

So far the char interactions are on point. Zero and the beast guy are funny together. It seems an interesting world to explore but i doubt the studio will be able to properly do that with just 12 episodes tho.

Episode 3:

That was fun. I like Zero's new outfit and she looks adorable in it. The title of the episode was fitting as well and I also had no doubt that Mercenary would beat that wolf face. I guess this episode also shows how much Zero trust in Mercenary's fighting abilities considering that she accepted without any fear of him losing.

Ep4: Oh Zero... you're such an innocent devil

They padding out the episode again but I'm glad they included some useful world-building aspects and also character background while at it.

Are there any disaster flags they didn't trip in that conversation heading up to the end of the episode? They pretty much guaranteed that the place was going to be a smoking ruin by the time they got there.

Ep 04

Another pretty good episode, but I must admit that part of me felt kind of sorry for Zero with regards to her upbringing, but in counterbalance it is nice that she has the opportunity she has now with Mercenary and traveling together. And the Merc is such a nice guy underneath that tough, gruff exterior! ^^

Even so, yeah - story wise this episode also felt to me like it was positively screaming that the village was "doomed" to be a disaster area by the time the MCs arrived. :\

In this anime, the male protagonist is the one who gets embarrassed and screams after he's seen naked, and he's the tsundere one

When Zero said she'll help with the back I immediately thought "you just want to feel his furs!" in my head

Anyway good to know he might have some potential for magic, I think It'd be interesting if he learns some magic.

It's cute, I'll give it that. But did anyone else get spice and wolf vibes?

Zero is like Holo in that she is wise, though also immature in her knowledge of the outside world. Mercenary is like Lawrence, only with muscle. Albus is just kind of there, but at least he gets fleshed out more.

yeah i totally get the "spice and wolf vibe, this serie is really very good and doing a very job here, really kudos for the writer, he really know how to make a good fantasy/Sol/action novel, this season really impressed me with the good ammount of not so too much cliche generic animes from novels and mangas which are more "perv loner looser otakus friendly".

about zero and horo, well horo for what i remember while she not was that totally in line with the world, at last "kiss" and make kids she pretty much knew before meet lawrence, she was definitily much less or not "pure and innocent" as zero, she had some experiences in the past she not was sort of "locked" inside a cavern for her whole life, but this episode really give a lawrence x horo vibe, the beastman mc is really cool and our "rare tsundere male".

this serie is being really cool and awesome, waiting for the next episode and poor peoples from the village i really hope mc and zero can give some "payback" to the peoples which did it to the village.
