One Piece - Chapter 765 [manga]
Welcome to the weekly manga discussion thread for One Piece.
Thread Guidelines
Short spoiler summary is out, courtesy of AP's Redon: -Chapter title is "Minion, the island of destiny". The ministory involves the people of the port town telling Jinbei that the ruins of their town collapsed, the sea beasts sunk their ships, and their offerings all vanished. -Doflamingo calls Rosinante to inform him about the whereabouts of the Ope Ope no Mi! Rosi manages to stay "in character" by communicating through the call via Morse code. It seems that a group of pirates are in possession of the fruit and intend to use it in a trade with the marines, but Dofla intends to steal it first. He wants Rosi to eat the fruit and use it to cure Law's disease. After the call, Dofla reveals that he has suspicions towards his younger brother, especially since Tsuru and the rest of the marines haven't been chasing them down for the past six months. He suspects Corazon may have been leaking info to the marines..... -Rosi wants Law to eat the fruit, since those with medical knowledge can use the power's full potential. He also figures that Dofla is already aware of his betrayal, since he never let on that he was already an ability user. Rosi contacts Sengoku to confirm the info about the fruit, and the admiral is surprised since this was top-secret information (obviously leaked by Vergo, heh). Also, it seems that Garp is present in Sengoku's office, though he's just eating snacks. Sengoku reveals that the trade is to take place in a North Blue Island called "Rubeck", and Rosi makes his intentions to steal the fruit first in order to foil his brother's plan as well as curing Law clear. Only three more weeks before the boy can be cured.... -Later, Law and Rosi head to the trade location. Law makes his hatred towards the government clear to him, but Rosi reminds him that he's NOT a marine. Besides, once they steal the ope fruit, they'll become enemies of Doflamingo, the marines, AND the WG. Nonetheless, he continues with his mission. He learned from Sengoku that the pirate who has the fruit is a guy named Diez Barrels, who was a former marine. He's hiding out in Minion Island, which the marines have under watch. Apparently, Barrels has no idea of the true worth of the fruit, and only cares about getting a huge amount of money for it..... -After giving a brief explanation of his nagi nagi powers to Law, Rosi sneaks into the pirates' hideout, takes out Barrels, and steals the fruit. However, as he escapes, Rosi trips and falls, and ends up getting surrounded by enemy pirates! Outside of the hideout, Law hears gunshots, and wonders what happens..... Well now, this sure sounds like an interesting chapter. And we have yet another pirate aside from X Drake who's a former marine! However, there IS one last thing to note..... NO CHAPTER NEXT WEEK! 'Fraid so, friend. Shouldn't be such a long wait, though..... Anyway, updated the first post since Aohige finished his summary. Edit: Oh crap, it looks like Barrels may actually be X Drake's father! I doubt it's a coincidence either since not only do they LOOK similar, but the "X" in Drake's name is read as "Diez", after all....!!! Edit 2: Wait, it looks like even Drake himself may appear this chapter. In the same page where we first see Barrels' gang, we see a beaten-up boy forced to fetch some booze, who's referred to as "Dory" (could be a nickname for "Drake"). And considering that half of his face is hidden, I think there's a good chance that he could be our supernova friend. Heh, if we're already seeing TWO North Blue supernovas this chapter, then I wonder if a younger Basil Hawkins will appear, as well....? Last edited by marvelB; 2014-10-23 at 06:19. |

The former marine pirate Diez Barrels, not only has the same family name as Drake, but he's a chin-monster. I have no doubt the glimpse we see here is Drake. Why even give this random little boy this obvious name, if it's not.

Rosinante's DF would definitely work a lot better with CP9. Although, I can't recall if Marines at Rosinante's rank are trained in Rokushiki? In which case, Rosinante would be pretty deadly with it. Well. If he's cornered just from having guns aimed right at him in close range, it doesn't seem like he could really match CP9.

^Yeah, I had also meant to bring up the appearance of Lvneel (Montblanc Norland's homeland in case anyone forgot), but I was a bit busy earlier and I guess it slipped my mind, heh. Still, really neat to see Oda bringing all these references to this flashback!

Yeah, I pretty much have zero doubt that we've got a Drake cameo here, as well. Though, I wouldn't exactly call him a "little boy" since he should be about 20 years old during this point in the flashback, heh. Also, as I said before, since we've already got 2 of the 3 North Blue supernovas here, Oda might as well add a Basil Hawkins cameo to round out the package, y'know? |
