I cannot tolerate Kirino's abusive behaviour towards her brother because the author never showed us any hint that Kirino was wronged by Kyousuke in the past.
I doubt that Kyou would have done something awful to his sister because: 1. he is a really nice guy 2. he never sounds guilty and never recalls the event in his internal monologues. Whatever happened in their past cannot justify the level of abuse and ungratefulness that Kirino shows to her brother. Someone said that Kirino never asked for his help but that's not entirely true. During the Ayase incident, she casted a side glance at him that was clearly saying "do something about this NOW!". And she forced him to accompany her on a Christmas date as compensation for looking at porn sites on her laptop. During the date she also forced him to buy her a present. She never thanked him after that single time in episode 3. Even if someone helps you without being prompted, you should at least show him some gratefulness! There is a theory that Kirino is actually a brocon and acts in the way she acts because she doesn't want to become too close to her brother. But there is a difference between keeping your distance and being outright abusive! I cannot justify her behaviour either way. To me she is a flawed character and I hope that Kyousuke will break her little black heart once and for all. But I know this won't happen. I'll just keep following this show for the awesome secondary characters.

Firstly Kirino is only that abusive to her brother. Why? Secondly, you don't ask someone you hate/look down upon for favors/help, ever. That is assuming you have an ounce of self-respect and Kirino probably has too much of it. Oh, the backward 'Oi do something, now!' glance was one of the cutest thing she's ever done The Christmas date, as well as the Comicon, were delibrate attempts to blackmail Kyousuke into something that he would otherwise never prompt to do with Kirino. Of course Kirino would never outright ask for these 'favors' either, so these 'slips' were readily seized upon. And no, a girl who doesn't even like you won't wear the present you just gave her right away, and definately not in front of you! |

Really, I think the analysis of which side of Kirino is "fake" or "real" or whatever is missing the point a fair bit. Her behavior and personality change based on the situation, but that doesn't mean that she's deliberately hiding some aspect of herself to keep up appearances, especially considering that we're talking about social spheres that don't intersect much if at all — she just acts differently in different environments. It's common for even the most kindhearted of people to have longstanding issues with family over ridiculously petty things. |

After following this show episode after episode I thought Kirino might change her attitude towards her brother a bit... in fact she does it though and she hates showing it....
What I feel is there must have been something that made their bond to become like the way it was now and we prolly would get to see it near the end. So I don't expect any huge changes between their interactions and slowly it seems Kyousuke is also interacting with her friends as well... which is different from his normal (rather boring interactions) with his neighbor girl.

She acts coldly towards Kyousuke because she does not want the truth to be found out about her (that she is secretly in love with her brother), and she denies it to herself because society views it as a negative. In many ways, she might be playing these games because she can relate to them and her situation (what she perceives in her mind, not actual reality). However, given all the reason she might act the way she does, she should not be treating Kyousuke the way she currently is. It is her character flaw and her weakness. Is she learning anything from these games to help her in her real life situation? I don't truly believes she does. To her, it probably is a form of release and relief. It is also a way for her to fulfill her fantasies that she cannot in real life. But a girl who wants to use you will. To me, Kirino took advantage of the situation and made her brother buy things for her since she did not have a boyfriend during Christmas. He was a replacement with all the perks without having to deal with the repayment and obligations of a boyfriend.

I think you are right in a way, Kuroneko might have something interesting to do besides Manami who leads your average normal life when Kyousuke is around. Ever since Kirino was brought to his life, he does seem to be looking for something interesting to do besides going through his usual route of going to school, then sleeping, then repeating.

Soon after I started to fall in love with the RPGs like Final Fantasy and others, then I started to look for more Romantic Comedies Anime, started to watch J-TV, and soon after just got involved in other aspects of Otaku world. So in sense it found me, now I see what you mean. ^_^ And now, I see how it applies to Kirino |

Wow am I late to the party. The best part, for me, was Saori. That was like, whoa. I thought she worked for that company, but she probably owns it or something even bigger.
I liked how all the other girls were depicted as being far better than Kirino. I know, that's usually the case but this time we saw how they are at home.

Honestly Saori looks older ... guessing in late 20ish and early 30ish. OH! maybe she actually a Seiyu in incognito He he he he.... I dont know, it does seems every ep all characters are gaining more insight about who they are are, including Kirino. She has gain some traits, we got to see her playing or acting like Kyousuke for a change even though she didnt realized it, or maybe she did... Last edited by KeitaroNagato; 2010-12-01 at 18:40. Almost certainly the same actor. It's just the style of speaking. Normally she has this exaggerated nerd-speak that's trying to sound like a ninja or something, while at home she has an equally exaggerated "elegant lady" style of speaking. It's been pointed out earlier that she also types like a lady when talking on the internet.

We don't have proof of this. We never saw her interacting with other guys.
Of course she is nice to her classmates and teachers, she has to maintan the image of the perfect student. But we have hints of her real personality when she fights with Kuroneko. Basically, we see her true self when she interacts with people who know her secret, and it's not pleasant. Quote:

Late reply but anyway.

The fear of intimacy might be a cliched plot device you've seen everywhere, but it's used because it's real, and far more common than people realize. I suspect it's one of the major reasons why she's become who she is. She's afraid of intimacy because she's afraid of what people would think of her if they learn about what her secret hobby is. Every time someone came close to or discovered it she withdrew into a shell which forced Kyousuke to taunt karma and take the bullet. The next irony is that Kyousuke, pretty much the only person who accepted her without making excuses, is the person she treats like crap. Hell she treats Kuroneko and Saori like crap too, in a lesser extent because they share the hobby, while Kyousuke doesn't. In the same way she was likely emotionally blunted, she probably lived her life completely guarded and cautious of people finding out, such that because of this she really doesn't know how to deal with people who don't care what she likes. With Kyousuke deciding to just accept her for what she is, she really doesn't know how to deal with it, and simply deals with it in the usual snarky and distant sort of way. And she pretty much came buckets when she finally got Rinko's sex scene. Hell she might have actually been sad when she got the bad/normal ending where the pair split. That should be good indicators that she also prefers the ultra Tsun approach. The above 2 paragraph made me realize something that has been bothering me for a while: Why does she need to get him to play galge and eroge, and generally otaku activity, anyway? Considering that his job description as her life coach has him helping her out with real issues, being her proxy in things she can't be in person and taking the proverbial bullet when she needs a human shield. Add in the fact that he's chosen to accept her hobby in the first place. He really doesn't need to get pulled into the entire otaku culture he himself finds bothersome to really help her, yet she insists. Why? Occam's Razor says, at least by my application, is that she's getting him into it as perhaps her indirect way of bridging the gap. Considering how she immediately made a strong (if somewhat abusive) bond with Kuroneko and Saori, there's a likelihood that she's using it as a vehicle to do something from her end of the Tsun line. Maybe she's not completely conscious of it, but she was completely ecstatic when she actually managed to share this hobby with someone, that someone being her brother. I wouldn't be surprised if that was her motive all along under the pretense of life counseling.
