Anyone not blinded by the farce of PRC economical development would have seen this coming.

Interesting move I would say, along with the naval standoff to divert attention to the outside.

Well rather than old people living longer it is the lack of birth.

Hmmmm. People have talked about the possibility of another revolution or civil war.

However there has never been a cause big enough to unify a large enough part of the country to the point where they would fuctionally oppose the Federal Government to the point were they would either fuctional break off large areas of the country from the District of Columbia, or risk their lives and propery to a cause to overthrow that government.

And I still don't see one that is worth dying for. Much less one that is worth living for.

It only needs one party to start a war.
Might as well be the one preparing for it...

China viewed as more positive influence compared to the US. Japan takes number one spot beating Germany.

The survey had 24,000 participants from over 22 different countries. Surprised over China beating the US, not surprised about Japan though.

Here's a breakdown chart from the PDF.

not really, China has never stage a coup to topple the government of another country.

As for the US, i dare anyone to go to South American and tell survivors and relatives of victims of US back dictators that those US back coup were good for them.

I assumption is the US interventions in the Middle East had a major effect on the survey.

It's probably because I read this article earlier about powdered baby flesh being smuggled into South Korea from China.

A margin of 3 more positive and 2 less negative does not say all that much. Especailly when both China and the USA jump out on the negative side verse the EU, UK, France, and Brazil that are right near them on the positive end of things.

Some observations and thoughts:

- Americans think Canada is a more positive influence than the US.

- Only 41% of Japanese think Japan is a positive influence. I thought this represents a low self-image among Japanese, until I see that most of them don't seem to think any country is much of a positive influence.

- Over half of Nigerians think North Korea is a positive influence. I guess scammers like each other.

- Everyone except Americans and Nigerians thinks Israel is a negative influence.

- Nigerians loves all countries except Iran and Pakistan.

- Everyone loves China, unless you live next to it.

Vietnamese activist made a special trip to Phil. to join in the rally against the big bully.

Thousand Filipinos demonstrate against China’s aggression in Manilla; Vietnamese activists also participated.

I know a few South Vietnamese that are basically waiting for the Communist (North) Vietnamese government to fall, and then they plan ot go home. Basically for Hanoi to fall and (Saigon) to raise again.

The island in question looks to me to be a lot closer to the Philippines than it is to China. Is China's claim based on its disputed claim to the Paracels, over which Vietnam also asserts sovereignty?

This is exactly the kind of situation that has led to conflict among the major powers historically. The story is getting almost no play in the US, caught up as we are in electoral politics and dour economic news. Unfortunately we have a defense treaty with the Philippines so this dispute is not something the US can just ignore if shots are fired. The Chinese military seem to be exploiting this issue to drum up nationalist feelings at home while also complaining that the Filipinos feel safe in escalating the conflict because of their alliance with the US. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that ill-feelings over the involvement of the US with the Bo and Chen cases isn't also part of the reason for pointing fingers at America.

The last thing we all need is for shooting to start over a small chunk of coral in the middle of the South China Sea.
