I'd rather they didn't it sorta cheapens the whole thing if they pull out such a deus ex machina.

it hardly deus ex machina. whole base is created by hyuga nanomachine. creating a decoy probably one of logical conclusion for second line of defense.

then again i also not surprised if he turn out to be dead

It's simply very convient and an awful plot device that they produced a living breathing clone made of flesh and blood to just to get killed. It's either deus ex machina or on incredibly shaky moral ground.

I'd understand if it was a normal machine but that clearly wasn't.

The death was kinda early and very unannounced....well, it kinda gives you the "real like" feelin that it is true and it did just happened....

I'm pretty sure it's a clone/doppleganger of some sort. A death like this feels kind of out of place with the tone of the manga.

Yea think I'd have to go with guessing it's the "favor" he asked of Takao.
They've shown Chihaya as a lad with some real brains and I think he would know about the commando unit.
Planting other thems is what I'd go with.

But never know could very well be a real death.
There are 2 types of deaths, 1st the one thats foreshadowed(generally rather obviously) and then 2nd the one thats very sudden.
Either type of death can work depending on how they are handled and how sudden deaths are handled all depends on the aftermath.
Where as a foreshadowing death is the build up.

Love Takao, she's such a lovely lass

A new chapter has arrived. Who knew about Shizuka? Also they seem to be planning something almost everyone is 'killed'.

Yeah there's no way all those deaths were real after they "killed" everyone except for Shizuka. I thought it was extremely amusing though that the military acted like they knew everything about the base and even secret passages that the crew didn't. That seems like really underestimating your opponents to me, since you know they've had control of the base for over a year.

I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't new "secret" passages Gunzou had set up.

Looks like the army is getting trolled after all, and it's time for some development for Shizuka.

I am also still laughing at her helmet and at Hyuuga robot army .

There had to one of the crew that was a hidden military nut and Shizuka was indeed one of the most likely to fill that role.
I just wonder why I never gave it much before.

Wonder what the real plan here is cause I got no idea about what might even happen from here.

Interestingly enough Takao herself is NOWHERE to be seen. Yeah, something is definitely up in this situation.

Thanks to a recommendation by LoweGear, I did a marathon read of the entire series so far and I have to say that as a WWII naval enthusiast, I LOVE this series! WWII battleships, cute girls, world spiraling into chaos. This series has it all.

I really like the blends of early 20th century technology and alien technology. The action between Hyuuga, Kirishima, and 1-401 was spectacular. Also, as a model builder, this really gives me some ideas of what to do with the 1/700 scale models of the Kongo, the Hyuga, and the Ise that I have in my collection.

I'm wondering, if the I-401 does make the trip across the Pacific, if we'll get to see some U.S. ships.

Endless "Thanks LoweGear" Soul

BTW, the drama CD has been translated!

Of all the characters being voiced in that Drama CD, Takao voiced by Rina Satou i like the most.
