Movie will be out on October 27 this year

It also has an English site.

And it seems ANN already posted the cast:
Quote:
Hiroshi Kamiya as Joe Shimamura/Cyborg 009

Toshiko Fujita as Ivan Whisky/Cyborg 001
Ryotaro Okiayu as Jet Link/Cyborg 002
Houko Kuwashima as Françoise Arnoul/Cyborg 003
Kazuya Nakai as Albert Heinrich/Cyborg 004
Hisao Egawa as Geronimo Jr./Cyborg 005
Naoki Tatsuta as Chang Changku/Cyborg 006
Masaya Onosaka as Great Britain/Cyborg 007
Hikaru Midorikawa as Pyunma/Cyborg 008
Also, according to Kenji Kaniyama:
Quote:
The movie depicts “what happens after” the science fiction manga ‘Cyborg 009‘.

Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?

Kenji Kamiyama can (almost) do no wrong.

I have no idea what anyone is saying, but hopefully it will be awesome.

did 003 and 009 ever share that kind of relationship?

I take it that the power-ups in the anime ending never happened?

That looks pretty awesome, but while I'm watching that trailer all I could think about is how much more awesome it would look like if it were movie quality 2d animation..

Exceedingly manly, though the only thing I really know about Cyborg 009 besides it being a legendary classic that gets remade pretty frequently is that one of the character designs served as the basis for Soldat J in Gaogaigar.

My understanding is that this is not a remake. It's a continuation of the story, as well as the finale. So, the "remake" in the thread title is misleading.

If done right, cel shading could one day replace key animation as the mainstream paradigm of anime with its higher fidelity and fluidity, which is what I'm guessing Production IG is hoping to make happen.

That'd be the darkest day in the history of anime.

I do believe it is.

Love his music! Kawai and Yoko Kanno are my two favorite anime composers.

Now that I know that this is directed by the same person who did GitS:SAC and is destined to have an amazing soundtrack I am intrigued.

I'm unfamiliar with the franchise but the trailer does look good. I'll give it a shot provided it's newcomer friendly enough.

The day hand drawn character animation is no longer used will be the day I consider giving up anime. >_>

Wow beautiful!
So is this how anime is made nowadays? Loved how they managed to make the 2D feel 3D~ish...

Only watched the original anime on Cartoon Network... I wonder if I missed anything since they like to cap and remove stuff off anime :L

- So...the future of anime is to look like saturday morning CGI cartoons?

...Bugger that. I like CGI animation and cel-shading, but there's times when it just falls flat. I'd prefer they do CGI or traditional cel animation on a case-to-case basis.

I ain't giving up on traditional animation either, but based on my observations and understanding of the anime industry in Japan and what Production IG et al have been experimenting with in recent years, I can see the direction they're starting to lean on.

When you think about how Japanese studios are outsourcing work to other countries to cut down cost and time while the domestic animators are still earning piss poor wages completely disproportional to the amount of work required of them, it'll come a time when it's no longer viable to justify the economics of traditional animation when it can be done more efficiently with CGI.

Of course there're still lots of kinks to work out. As far as transition goes they'd want to initially mimic the style and feel of anime and perhaps once people get used to it they'll be afforded more creative liberty to do things that are not possible or simply too expensive for key animation. Just think about the 2D/3D hybrid method first popularised by Gonzo e.g. Vandread and people's initial reaction to it and now virtually every major anime shows are a mix of hand-drawn and CG animation, whether you're consciously aware of it or not.

I for one am open to it. So far ReCyborg 009 isn't perfect yet but it's among the first of it kind to take a crack at mainstream anime. Who's to say the next one or the one after that won't blow people's minds away?
