Also, magic combat is a sport in Mid-Childa. In a magic society like that you can never be sure who's able to kick your ass. And powerful abilities granted by the Eclipse Virus can easily turn someone into a powerhouse--did it look like Touma had much in the way of combat training with his magic before he got infected? And look how he turned out afterwards... trashed a whole building throwing down with Veyron.

^not to mention being able to trounce a double-upgraded Nanoha with relative ease and needing 4 powerfull upgraded mages (including Nanoha) to finally contain him. But well, being fair to them, Tohma was in "Terminator Mode" at the time xDU

But yeah, EC-virus is a very cheap way to get broken superpowers. The trick is in surviving the infection to get the awesome powers xDU

EC-Drivers don't use magic, they use EC-energy based powers (lampshaded by Reinforce in Gears of Destiny and fully confirmed by Cypha on FORCE Record 23).

Akiyoshi's right. They aren't able to use magic anymore after being affected. The EC gives them another source of power, kinda like the cyborgs I.S.

I wasn't counting that particular battle as at the time, that was less Touma's combat prowess and more of the Bible's combat prowess. Touma wasn't in any real control, similar to the Automatic Defense Program's control of Hayate.

Touma at least had an athletic build to work with since he was traveling all over on foot.

And I'd be willing to roll with this, really, except that they've been acting like this guy is dangerous because of his plans, and how he's gotten all these people to do his dirty work for him - not because he can personally step in to beat you up. There's already like eight other villains who can do that to work with right now.

Well, it seems now that Mr. Vandin's role as the Big Bad is cemented. He'll may be hiding some kind of ultimate Eclipse power to turn the tables on Curren during the final battle (or simply attacking her with an anti-virus or something).

Probably Hardis will mop the floor with everyone but will lose foolishly after loosing his cool due to enjoying being a monster a wee bit too much. Cue suffering a superpower meltdown xD
