Don't get me wrong: Motherland is a great song. However, the person that decided to make it an ending for Fullmetal Alchemist must have been smoking something good. While I enjoy listening to the full-length version, it really kills the mood of the episode that I had just watched, as buuZero said.
I just got the full-length version of Rewrite (fourth opening, Asian Kung-Fu Generation) and I CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO IT! It's easily as good as Undo and Ready Steady Go. I've always loved Kung-fu's vocalist, not only in Haruka Kanata but solo songs such as Flashback and 12. Rewrite is no exception. The song is much, much better than that 33 second segment lets on. The verses are the best part of the song: they have a really 'well, this is the end of our journey, it was fun' feel. They're calm but a little angsty, and the song builds up until you reach the chorus, which is also great! I think I like this song more than Haruka Kanata. Wow. I wonder how the TV version will sound, but whatever they do with it, it'll be great. It is really fitting for FMA as well As I have said before, I hope Sowelu doesn't pull a Crystal Kay here. I love Tobira no Mukou He and especially Kesenai Tsumi. Both were so full of angst and pain that they did the Elrics justice Oh well, we can only hope and pray... but here's one person who'll be downloading the 42 raw this weekend Last edited by Fighter Volk; 2004-07-23 at 09:26. I've only listened to the TV versions of the 4th OP and ED, but I thought they were really fitting the closing episodes of the series, and to top it off, the animation for the opening was crisp and solid. This could easily beat UNDO as my favorite FMA song, once I find the full version. The ending was calm, and the animation delivered a message that everything would come together.

Just saw the opening....omg it was really good. The tone is a bit different from UNDO. The opening is much more serious, but AKFG's song really fits in with it. I also agree that the animation was incredible.
As for the ending, it was just ok. The scenes that were shown were good, but the song isn't that great. This might be a bit of a dissapointment for some FMA fans. Nana Kitade's first ending song still remains the best for me. |

If you like Haruka Kanata and/or Rewrite, check out their solo stuff. A lot of Asian Kung-Fu's songs are awesome - Rewrite is my current favorite, but they've done some really great stuff that hasn't been featured in anime.

Porn Graffiti's "Melissa" 4/5 - really good suits the show
L'arc~en~Ciel's "READY STEADY GO" 3/5 - feels weaker than the others over all Cool Joke's "UNDO" 4/5 - Very nice the battles suit the "season" well Asian Kung Fu Generation's "Rewrite" 5/5 - perfectly suits the darker times of the more recent episodes, from Ed and Al standing in the crater to Mustang drinking by a picture of his old buddy(*salute*), with a shot of that Lyra girl who i still think is up to something major. (hell maybe Dante took over her body or something odd like that<or maybe i've been reading dark empire a little to often>). I also liked the shot of Mustang and Armstong in combat, and i knowticed when Al threw that large stone his eyes where glowing so that may have been foreshadowing. endings Kesenai Tsumi 5/5 - The way they talk about sins comes into better light with the more recent episodes and makes this ending better repersent the show. To the Other side of the Door 2/5 - not bad just didn't care for it as much as the others Motherland 3/5 - winry fanservice *drools slightly*, bit slow but otherwise well done I Will 4/5 - still slow but the images make it worth it paired with the slow sad music it seems to set the mood for the ending of the show. Anyone else knowtice that Pride didn't make it into either the opening or ending? Makes me wonder after seeing how "human" his emotions and actions where. night everyone *walks away to go to bed* |
