Oh no! "X" has lost his "Y" ability. Should I still like him?
If naruto didn't have the kyubi, would he still be as liked?
If sasuke didn't have the sharingan, would he still be as liked? If Itachi didn't have the sharingan, would he still be as liked? If Kakashi didnt have the sharingan, would he still be as liked? Basically, the question being posed is which set of characters have their popularity most dependent on personality and which set have their popularity most dependent on preborn abilities? Of course you can only remove ability from personality so much (naruto is the kyubi and it has deeply affected much of his actions) but on the other hand we can abstract much too. Sasuke's sharingan is a large part of him, but nonetheless his fighting style can be with it on and without it on. We can indeed imagine sasuke in an equally strong form without the sharingan just as we can imagine naruto in an equally strong form without drawing on the kyubi. So I pose the question again, which set of naruto charaters does their popularity hinge the most upon their preborn innate ability? And which set does it hinge on their personality? Les restrict the discussiont to just those 4 because they are the easiest to do some basic abstraction. I can't list gaara for example cause you can't do any abstraction. His style directly comes from the 1 tails and we can't imagine him fighting without sand based techniques, let alone being equally strong simply because we haven't seen him show any capability to so keep that in mind. Same thing for neji, but to a much lesser extent (neji has shown propensity for taijutsu and could easily be a high level taijutsu specialist even without his eyes) Last edited by Hunter; 2007-07-17 at 03:49. Kakashi would still be liked, sharingan or not, it's his general personality that they put on him that makes him liked.
Sasuke wouldn't be "as" liked, but there's a twist in that. And the characters in the series wouldn't see him as strong if he didn't have sharingan. Meh, Itachi might keep up his reputation with or without sharingan, it's his typical, i'll kill you, and leave it that thing. Without widely showing it. Itachi's popularity would rise if Sasuke didn't have sharingan. Naruto would lose lots of liking outside the series, I mean the Kyuubi is what makes him mainly as strong as he is. In the series wow he would be just another person but yeah that would throw off the plot since he's the main character but either way, it would result in a dramatic liking. |

*kakashi would be okay
*sasuke would probably drop but still rank in top 10 cuz of his mysterious attitude *itachi would drop alot since w/o the sharingan he wouldn't hav been able to kill the clan and he would be powerless since hes a genjutsu type user *naruto... the show would end cause w/o he kyubi people would've liked him more and he would'nt strive to be hokage and wouldn't hav the potential or spirit to get stronger |

Kakashi is the only character that has any, for a lack of a better term, character. So he would still be cool in my book.
I used to love Naruto because he was so so funny and unpredictable, but now he's just "Sasuke this, Sasuke that' and a 2 trick pony. The Uchihas have become completely one demensional now and I hate it. Sasuke used to have depth, especially during the chase arc, being a coward in front of Oror, then later telling Naruto to take Sakura while he brought time fighting Gaara. That was character. Now all he does is 'Itachi this, Itachi that" and doesn't even change expressions and just stares at you...... pretty boring if you ask me. If you asked me this question during the Chuunin exam I would have said yes but now not so much. Hell I don't like them even with their extra fluff much less without them. Hell Naruto as a series has been in the shitter sine the Chuunin arc and the only reason I still watch it is Sasori. |

Sasuke would still be liked but all the Uchiha admirers would probably bail if it weren't for the Sharingan, same for Itachi...Itachi would suc without Sharingan. If Naruto didn't have the kyubi there is no more story. |

If naruto didn't have Kyuubi, he'd just be another ninja. (It would depend on who his parents were, but since no one knows, niether will we. Maybe he was Yondaime's some or something and he'd have become the Godaime, I dunno...)
Sasuke would be just as emo, but not as strong. Depends on the next question. I think people only like Itachi b/c of his Mangekyou Sharingan. WIthout that, he's got no following. I hate him for having gay black laquered nails. Ugh. Kakashi is awesome, hands-down, with or without Sharingan.

Well Itachi would still have some Katon jutsus and fast speed without the Sharingan but he'll be less bad ass
Kakashi will still be great but without sharingan he won't be called copy-ninja and it'll be harder for him to hit people with Raikiri... Spoiler for Manga:
Naruto will be ok... Spoiler for Sasuke-Manga:

Since the Sharingan is the only thing that's giving super fast abilities to analyze, track and counter moves... without it, I think Sasuke would be pretty flatlined.... As for the rest, they have shown the potential to rely on much more than just their special abilities thus enabling them to progress even without their unique talents.... |

These character aren't what they are because they have bloodline/Bijuu, they have these abilities because of what they are.
Without them they would have something else which would also explain why the story is about Naruto and his rival/vilain/teacher. |
